got the call, went to this board. this is a bank of america number. my card had been used twice early this morning at a meijer gas station in roseville, mi for a dollar both times. i know, the amount is nuts. don't know how the bank figured this out because the card was used this past week at a joann's fabric shop in roseville, maybe the one across the street from meijer. don't know also how the number got captured or if a card was created from using it at the card machine. bottom line, number is legit, card was immediately canceled and online access was revoked soon after the call. will be getting a new card soon.the caller id said card services and is an affiliate of b of a to handle such incidents. it would be much better if the id said bank of america to eliminate confusion. but then again any unscrupulous caller could do that as well.
I just got a call from BOA from this number about fraud charges...they took over FIA...so even though I stll have and use my old FIA card...they now belong to BOA
Received TWO calls today from 302-731-1166. No message left. Many folks seem to think this is a legit Bank of America number.I called BofA and had them check my account. NOTHING was wrong.Best advice, is to go to the bank's site and YOU call them at one of the numbers listed on their web site.
So I received a call from (302) 731-1166 and didn't pick it up. No message was left on my voicemail. I instantly google'd the phone number and found you guys! After reading your reviews and opinions, I decided to do a public service and investigated for you guys. I called the number back and the guy presented himself as "card services how may I help you?" I told him I received a phone call and was wondering why they had called. He then asked "may I please have your credit card account number?" I told him I was a little bit wary with giving out my card info and he replied "if you feel uncomfortable you may call the telephone number on the back of your card" I said thank you very much and he told me to have a good day. No pressure to stay on the phone or to give out my credit card number. I then called the number on the back of the card and there was an alert on one of my credit cards. Long story short, there were no fraudulent charges, and they were just checking for suspicious activity. I conclude that the phone number that called me was indeed a credit card fraud prevention service from BofA and they were just looking for suspicious activity. If in doubt, just tell the person on the line you're uncomfortable with giving out your account number and they shouldn't hassle you. Instead they will redirect you to call the number on the back of your card. I hope this was helpful. Cheers!
This was a legitimate call to check activity on my card. After entering my zip code as an identifier, it then asked me to confirm recent charges (that I had indeed made).
Received two calls from this number today. Having just called Bank of America yesterday confirming payment receipt, I had just reviewed my account back to September. No charges, as I've not made any. Voila, today I'm called, no message left. I call back after googling and seeing "fraud, and Bank of America". I call Bank of America, verify my account is still good, no notations in the file regarding possible fraudulent activity, no new charges/credits/attempts on the account. Ask for the number to be cancelled and a new one sent. Second call from 302 I answer, asked to press one if I am "ME". I press one, and the number disconnects. I call them back immediately, call picks up, no one answers but am able to hear people speaking in back ground. I wait, say Hello, I am immediately asked to give my credit card number. No way not happening. Ask him to identify himself and what is the reason for the two calls this am. Identifies himself as Ed from the Fraud Department, I ask with whom, to which he replies, Bank of America. I ask what is this in regards to, he replies, that there are possible fraudulent charges on my account, and I have to give him the card number so that I can verify the account. I say, try again Ed, I've already spoken with Bank of America this morning, and there no such activity on the account, and wouldn't you already have my account number if you were who you say you are. And I'm recording this conversation and your misrepresentation as an employee of the fraud department of Bank of America. This recording will be provided to Bank of America, the local police department, and the VA Attorney General. He hung up. If you are concerned regarding your account, you initiate a call to your banking company. NEVER NEVER give any such information to someone calling you or emailing you. It is a scam.
Wow! Thank goodness for this website. I got 2 calls from this number this morning but didn't recognize it so I searched it online and this page came up. I immediately checked my BoA account and found several charges on there when I have not used the account in several weeks. First charge for $3the was a tester, then $110 at a Shell station and then they tried over $300 at Target but got declined and that's why I was called. I am so glad I caught this in time and this website absolutely saved me a lot of time and aggravation. Thanks!
This is legit. It is Bank of America fraud detection. I rarely use my BoA card, but have recently purchased some big Christmas gifts on it. They saw this as suspicious activity (not surprising at all). They just had me verify the charges and asked for no personal info other than my zip code. In fact, it is all automated.
