I received a call from the Bank of America Fraud Services or whatever. We don't even have a Bank of America card... This is a little ridiculous.
LIES LIES LIES these people claiming the number is legitimate are full of lies (or confusion). This number does not match any of the numbers BofA has listed on their website or on my cards. PLEASE, for the sake of being safer than sorry, just call the bank directly from the number on the back of your card or their website. BETTER YET go to the bank in person. No company will EVER contact you asking you for your personal information.
Received call from this number, caller ID reported CARD SERVICES F; nothing to do with BOA.Perhaps Rachel is back in business? Looks to me like more identity theft trolls. I think a legitimate business would leave a message, identify themselves, and provide callback information.
I'm reposting this up here because these scam "artists" hired a bunch of monkeys (with terrible grammar and spelling skills if I may add...) to go on the front page and push back most of the comments indicating that this is a scam. Thus filling the front page with a bunch of BS about how it is a legitimate number....Get a call from these a-holes twice this morning. Didn't pick up because I never answer calls I don't recognize (especially if they don't leave a voicemail the first time) and I especially never answer calls from out of state I don't recognize because it's always a scam.Anyways, I looked up the number on here and confirmed my suspicions that it was a scam call. Interestingly enough, when I checked my BoA account, it had been closed because of suspicious fraudulent charges. The number for the fraudulent number ON THE ACTUAL BoA website does not match the number that called me. My guess is these jerk offs steal your card and make a lot of suspicious purchases making BoA instantly close your account because of their security settings. So just in case you are suspicious enough to check your account after they called you, you will see your account is closed and think the call is actually from Bank of America.SPOILER ALERT: IT NEVER IS. It never will be. A company will NEVER ever contact you for your personal information. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO AN INCOMING CALL/EMAIL EVER.I also love how they called me on f***ing Martin Luther King Jr. day so all the banks are closed. It's also another red flag.Don't listen to the other posts on this site claiming the number is legit. I have nothing to gain but they have everything to lose if you listen to the people claiming it's a scam. Only ever give out information after directly calling the company's line listed on your card.Your account may most likely be closed because these scammers know what they are doing. But please, do NOT think that because your account is closed when you received the call that it is legitimately BoA. Better safe than sorry. Hell, go to BoA directly. It's not just money scam artists will take they can destroy your credit score and impersonate you to the point where your name will forever be tarnished.
Hey BowHunter,I commend you for trying to protect lemmings from giving out their SSN over the phone, but like the other 25-50 people on this thread, I got a call from this number and can confirm that the callers did not ask me for my SSN. They merely said I had a fraud alert on my BofA card, and then I went online and sure enough, there was a fraud alert for a $1 charge from some weird ranch in CO. Chill out buddy, this one actually isn't a scam. Unless they have somehow conspired with BofA to get my BofA info. Believe it or not, most credit card companies have fraud alert systems that call you if they suspect a fraudulent transaction.
I am almost positive that this is a legit number. I got a call from this number that I missed on my cell phone. I also received an email claiming to be from BofA saying that there was potential fraudulent activity on my account, with an 800 number to call or a link to a fraud alert website. Being cautious, but not paranoid, I just went to my on-line account via the usual method, to find that it was blocked due to potential fraudulent charges, so I had to clear it. First I had to enter my account #, then there were a bunch of multiple choice questions that no one else would know the answers to, then they asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, and finally they showed me all of my charges for the last three days and asked if they were all legit. They were, though some did seem a little odd, so I said "yes" and then the message said that my card was cleared. The odds of my getting a scam call, especially on my cell phone which has never happened before, and my account actually being blocked like that show that the call I received was from BofA.
I can't tell if this is real or fake. I called the number on the back of the card and they did say they had put a hold on the account, so maybe it is real? (Odd thing is the "mysterious purchases" I made were at a gas station I stop at at least twice a month and then later that night a website I buy a lot of things from). The number that called me though did not seem very legitimate, and I had this happen a few years ago with a similar call and it was not legitimate (They got my info and tried to buy a computer at Dell). Either way I suggest calling BofA if you get this call, it can't hurt anything.
Just got off the phone with BOA fraud and they know nothing about the # or the person the recording claims to be calling. It isn't me. New cell phone # so I thought maybe it was used by someone before I got it this past Dec. BOA says they have nothing on any of this.
They called me three times in 10 minutes. After looking at this site I called back and it's the same story as above. It's card services and they work for a number of banks to contact you about suspicious activity. He said to call the number on the back of my credit card if I didn't feel comfortable giving it to them. I called it and my bank said it was legitimate and confirmed the charges (none were fraudulent, just a whopping charge for heating oil was suspicous). Anyway, I told him that I thought not leaving a message was really unprofessional and he said he'd make a note of it.
