the business had potential. the installers all sucked except for tom-the-tiler. at first visit they'd whine about the pay, by the 2nd or 3rd visit the installer would be happier. Its called a "start up". you dont get paid well in the beginning. If you all had one iota of delivering a quality job and making the company a success, you would have tried to do better work. But as typical of our new culture, everyone is a glorified something and underpaid. As a customer the work that I saw done was laughable. I have more tools and better skills as a homeowner. i really suspect some of you purposely left jobs crappy to get a second call to fix it. I just cant explain how obvious the mistakes were that were made. Blame yourselves for being slack and wanting $200K salaries that you dont deserve. Rob tried to start a business and you all too advantage of him.I don't think most of you had any good experience and were the demise of the company. His costs were over run by damaged parts, that he had the good faith to replace.I wouldnt hire most of you to build a dog house.
It's still Kitchen Carolina under this public notice. Also a few other notes to help others out:1. You don't need a dispute form from GE. That's a delay tactic so you don't put your dispute in writing till the time period is up. Send a letter with all supporting documentation (like returned email, copy of the downed website etc.) to: GE Money Bank P.O. Box 981438, El Paso, TX 79998-1438, cc to the BBB of your local area (mine for Raleigh is BBB of East NC).2. No contractor who did work on your home under Kitchen Carolina can put a lien on your home. They have no contract with you. The "Contractor Agreement" you signed was only with Kitchen Carolina. The workers are subcontractors to them. If any worker threatens to put a lien on your home, tell them to take a hike and get an attorney if necessary. Do not be bullied by contractors. Not that I don't feel for them, I do. They've been screwed too, but that's not the homeowner's responsibility to correct. I'm "lucky" I guess, I found out about this mess when I didn't hear about my cabinet delivery so no work has begun. The problem, of course, is dealing with GE Money and having a completely demo'd kitchen in preparation of a kitchen install that's never going to happen now. Merry frickin' Christmas, right? Good luck to everyone.
did you know Rob has shut the doors and filed bankrupsy. He owes us alot of money, we did great work for him, now we are without our pay and our poor customers are without their kichens complete. I am so sorry for those customers.
Cara... What city are you in? I am in the same boat except luckily I still have my kitchen intact. Cabinets were to be delivered 12/28/09. I have filed my dispute with GE, sent a complaint to the NCDOJ, filed a complaint with BBB and am planning on calling the NC Contractors Board this afternoon. Don't know what else to do at this point besides wait...
Thanks Cara. Best Advice I heard here yet. Contractors complaining about $200, $500, etc. Homeowners are out $5K, $10K, $20K+ and with no kitchen. Threatening to put a lien. I appreciate putting that to rest. That's insult upon injury. You had a chance to walk away after not getting paid once and you all had better insight to what KC was doing to homeowners (if you are all experienced as you say you are, then you're all complicit in the deceit that took place.)How could you rightfully pull someone's kitchen out, if you didn't have all the materials lined up and resources scheduled to replace it ? You didn't care. You made your $200 and were fine with it.
You could join me for a blowtorch party at their headquarters! LOL I'm kidding!! (kinda)How did you file with GE Money? Did you send a letter? I just started this process yesterday. My new problem is that today Kitchen Carolina answered the phone and said they're just "delayed". I don't care, after reading the messages on here, I'm definitely wanting out, even if it means living with a demo'd kitchen till I find a better option. I'm just concerned GE won't consider their violation of the contract valid. Have you had any success as yet?
Cara - Keep on providing your excellent advice. This is important. It appears we found a message board we can use.I think some of us homeowners would/should like to know who each other are without spoiling our confidentiality. I am wondering if we can contact each other and use ONE power house lawyer. Class-Action-Like. Without forming together, we remain at the whim of Corporate Lawyers who are paid higher sums than our individual lawyers.I would love to work with others to clear this up.
