Advised caller that I was with RCMP asked where he got number from, he said he bought it from a guy in a suitcase.
Still am getting calls from that number even though I've been on the do not call" list since it first came out.000-000-0000 is another nuisance caller.
received taped-call for reducing credit-card lowering.I hung-up.Tried to find out who was calling.Busy-signal only.
I just got a call from this number, answered right away - heard silence for 5-10 seconds, then a really friendly recorded voice saying "Hi! This is Rachel from your card service. This is an important call to let you know that you are eligible to lower the interest on your credit card. Just give us a call back blah blah blah". I assume if I call they'll try to steal my credit card information.
386-233-3694??? let it go to voicemail message was "your interest rate is about to change press1 now" or "press 3 if you wish to be removed from the list"
this service offered to lower my credit card interest, they asked for my credit card debt amount, when I told them, they said they could not help me and hung up without identifying themselves.
People...don't take it personally. These bottom feeders don't know your number and aren't targetting just you. They use computer programs that generate potential phone numbers - mostly they are interested in contacting individuals not businesses. Of course they also have a list of numbers (much prized) of people who were scammed (I guess they think that if they fool someone once, they can do it again). I suspect that they also create a list of numbers that are bona fide numbers (the computer generates every kind of 7 digit number and some of them haven't been assigned to people yet, or are fax numbers or security numbers, etc). So, if you answer or press #1 or 2 or whatever to talk with them, they know that your number is bona fide and they can add you to the list and harass you over and over. So resist the urge to toy with them (unless you are bored out of your mind and don't mind getting more and more calls). 2. they don't have to be making the call from Florida or wherever the area code is from - through the miracle of modern electronics, they can be in one part of the world and make you think they are calling from next door. 3. everything I read about the US and Cdn Do Not Call lists tells me they aren't worth sh*t. It is a waste of time adding your number to the list since mostly you want to stop bottom feeding scammers from calling and they regard themselves as above the law. They don't respect the Do Not Call list! I had my number listed and suffered with many many calls. When I moved, I didn't put my number on the list ...and, well, much improvement. 4. You can try to outwit/outrun the scammers but it ain't easy ... I got a call from these people at 386-233-3694, picked the phone up and tapped the numbers # # # #, which is supposed to be a code that your number is not in service. A few minutes later I got a 000-000-0000 number which when I picked up immediately went into a taped spiel - I only caught part of it ... RBC with an important message about my credit card (of course I don't deal with RBC and never have). Have to assume it was the same criminal just switching tactics. Sigh!!!
Thanks for the heads up everyone. I received 2 calls from them in the last couple of weeks both at different times of the day. I didn't answer as I didn't recognize the number and now know not to answer! I also live in Canada.
