I agree with Diana,I own a web business that processes thousands of purchases a month though PayPal. The "long form" of transaction description that appears on lots of bank statements has this true PayPal number in it. something like PayPal *BizNameHere 402-935-7733

I noticed a charged on my bank account statement this morning. It was for Paypal/Ebay purchased with the 402-935-7733 as a reference number. I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD A PAYPAL OR EBAY ACCOUNT. I called the 402-935-7733 number and no one answered. So, I immediately called my bank and informed them of fraudulent activity on my account. I completed a dispute form and the bank cancelled my debit card. THIS IS FRAUD. CONSUMERS BE AWARE.

I received a call from this number today and they didn't leave a message. Whenever I don't recognize the number calling me, I always look it up on the internet and it brought me here. Yesterday I made a purchase on my Pay Pal account for an item that I had bid on and won on Ebay for $16.94. I saw on my bank account that it stated the transaction as Paypal *jenney75 4029357733 Ca 1 for $16.94. So when I looked up this phone number and saw that multiple people were receiving fraudulent charges on their bank account/credit cards that had this same phone number listed with a Paypal name, I was freaking out! So I called the customer service phone number listed on the Paypal website 1-888-221-1161, and they gave me a specific pin on the website that I had to type into my phone, and then I had to tell the automated voice the reason why I was calling, and then it directed me to a gentleman who spoke english. I told him my situation, and that I had received a call from a weird number and that I wanted to make sure that it was a legit number from their company. When I told him the number, he said "That's us!" And so I asked if he could tell me why they called me, because I have made purchases in the past with my Paypal, and they never called me. He said that sometimes they will call to confirm with you the purchase/purchases that you have made, especially if they are larger purchases. I told him that I thought that it was odd because it wasn't a very big purchase, and that I wanted to make sure that my identity was safe with them. He could see all of my Paypal information and confirmed with me the purchase I had made was legit, and reassured me that my information was safe and that if anything fraudulent ever happens, that Paypal will reimburse any charges. After I spoke to him I felt a little better. But I still feel weird about the whole situation, and don't know if I completely trust Paypal or Ebay with my personal information. I changed all of my personal passwords and am going to keep an eye on my bank account, and i'm considering deleting my Paypal account.

Just got a phone call by this number after initiating a Paypal transaction. On a Sunday? I don't live in the US. Wanted to do a "security check". Very suspicious. I hung up the phone and closed my paypal account.

I just noticed an unauthorized charge on my bank account (must be through a debit card) in the amount of $29.90, which has the following transaction information: PAYPAL *WEBHOST 402-935-7733 CA . I have never had a Paypal account, so this makes no sense. I have emailed Paypal and will be calling my bank once it opens to try to have the charge tracked and reversed.
