Someone just called my father-in-law's cell phone looking for my sister-in-law. very bizarre. Thanks for the 411 on this situation.
Received a couple calls today from 405-555-0199, showing an Oklahoma ID. Message was left saying they were from Chase, my mortgage lender, and to return the call. But as everyone else has noted, the number isn't valid and doesn't go through. Must be some sort of scam because when Chase calls, it says Chase.
Recorded message left said,"This is your local Chase Home Loan Servicing Center. We are right here in your neighborhood and are available at your convenience".Now I couldn't pick Oklahoma out on a map unless it was labelled, but I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near my nothern virginia neighborhood :-)Interestingly enough, when I called the number back from my office (digital lines, my number shows up as "unavailable"), I get the "your call cannot be completed as dialed message".
On this months phone bill this number 405 555 0199 was charged on home phone as direct [***]. and charged $ 2.49 each for two calls. Did not make, made them take off. So check your AT&T bills they tried to slide that right in.
Just got a call from this number and CLID says Oklahoma. Answered and then I got a disconnect tone.
They told me they were the billing office of my local fire department. When I called the number, it was a 411 (local) information call. Obviously a fake number, but for what purpose I'm not sure. I could not reach an actual human.
"This is Chase Home Finance. if this is "(silent pause)," please press 1. If this is not "(silent pause)." please press 2." After a long pause, I pressed 1 and the line went dead. I called my mortgage company and they had no record of anyone calling. When I tried to call the number back, I got the "no longer in service" automated recording. Wish I hadn't pressed any button.
My place of business has been receiving hundreds of these calls monthly. When our employees have answered, there is never anyone there. Seeing that they are sending a calling line ID that is not ligitimate, I will be filing a complaint with the PSC and any other governing bodies that would be notified of these events, and perhaps we can look into filing a class action suit. An fyi regarding the do not call lists: this is not valid for anyone who has a relationship with the company in past or present. For example, You opened up a credit card with American Express, and you were behind on your payments. Amex then sends the deliquent accounts to ABC collections. ABC can call you regardless of do not call lists since you have a relationship in existence. Granted, the relationship is with Amex, however, ABC collections is working on behalf of Amex, so this is acceptable and legal.
