Just got a call from 407-480-9999. It showed up on my caller ID, didn't recognize the number, so didn't answer. It rang three times, and they did not leave a message. Listed on my caller ID was the number, and Cell phone FL.
This sounds like a story that should be of importance to dateline or any other consumer group. The only way to stop these calls is by bringing national attention to this as it is really annoying to have the phone ring so often. I don't answer them either, but I am sick of wasting the time to use reverse phone check to identify the scammers. Somebody help us please!
Automated voice said they were calling from my credit card company (but didn't name the company) and said they were calling to lower rate. I hung up. Then got the same call from new number (as I'm filling out this form) about 5 minutes later- phone number 321-304-9999. Listened longer and they said to press 1 to talk to a rep- so I did. Male answered the phone and asked if I was interested in the new lower rate & when acted interested and asked what card company this was for, he promptly hung up.
Folks:I am retired from the telephone company and was a switching equipment engineer for many years. I'm here to say that the telephone company CAN stop these calls with a bit of simple programming - but it costs them money to do so and what's in it for them? (Fewer long distance call fees, lost manhours on something that actually REDUCES their revenues, etc). Get the picture? YUP - the telephone companies actually BENEFIT at your misery. I hope you'll remember this:1. When you decide WHICH communications company to do business with2. When you vote (as in - there should be a law against this 'mis-treatment' shouldn't there)?3. When you PAY your communications bills - maybe you should 'with-hold' funds for mis-treatment4. Why Americans pay the HIGHEST broadband FEES for service anywhere in the world!Needless to say - YOU DESERVE BETTER SERVICE than that which you are getting. Call (or better yet - WRITE) your telephone company about your complaints. They have THOUSANDS of highly paid executive officers just waiting to respond to your comments!
The below message from somebody else that's exactly what I got. I didn't even say HI and a lady started talking in a recording. These CROOKS should have better things to do then bothering people.San Jose,CAMay 27,2011############################################These folks are spoofing the caller ID. The recording that starts "this is Rachael from card services calling about your current card. There is no problem with your account..." Then it goes on about how they can lower the interest rate. Got two calls from different LOCAL numbers that had the exact same recording. Checked with a friend that works for the local phone company and he said the numbers on my caller ID did not exist and they were using a spoofing service that makes it impossible to trace it back to them. It is illegal, but there is no way they can catch them since the spoofing service they use is in another country so they can't get court orders for their records.
A few weeks ago, I was getting a lot of phone calls from this number; then I started to play their game. I will pick up the phone and I will not answer, then after a few seconds, I will hang up. They finally stop calling me until today when I just got another phone calls. I will continue playing their game. Next time I will start making goofy noise so they stop calling me.. or I will tell them "No Speak English".. LOL..
I have been getting calls from this #, too. I now do not answer. Thanks for sharing this info, ALL. Power in numbers! Glad I searched the # in the "search" box.
