This number just called and I heard a man laughing. He said nothing, just started to laugh before I could even say "Hello?". He then hung up. I dialed *69 and found this number.
thanks a lot for posting this. i called the number you gave, left a message with my phone number asking that they please stop calling it and they finally have!!! i was getting 5-6 phone calls a day from them, from morning till night. thanks again!
they call late at night while our family/children are sleeping. they were asked to not call back again several times and to remove our number from the list. they say they will delete the number but they never do and keep calling. they don't take no for an answer and try to push a sale offering free for the week but you just pay the weekend paper.it is the toronto star and we have said no several times in the past years because we have no need for the newspaper delivery to our home.they call almost two to three times a week (occassionally everyday including weekends) but usually at night between 6-10pm.Very disturbing and there is no way of stopping them.
Kind of nasty there, Jimmy With A Clue. (Although her's is the clearest case of "HEY, LOOK AT ME! I'M A P.I.!" I've ever seen.)For what it's worth, these Eh-holes take advantage of LOOPHOLES in the Do Not Call registry. The wording of the DNCL rules state: "note that the following calls are still allowed under the National DNCL rules"There are TWO of them involved here. Specifically:1. - "Newspapers of general circulation for the purpose of soliciting subscriptions;"2. - "# A telemarketer with whom you are considered to have an existing business relationship. An existing business relationship occurs when you: * Purchase, lease, or rent a product or service IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS (18) months from the telemarketer;"So, this idiot "Newspaper Call Centre" can call you whenever they like as they are totally exempt. And other companies - like Bell Canada for instance - can bug the crap out of you for a year and a half after you switch to another telephone company. etc. etc. Persons conducting "Market Research and Surveys" are also exempt. I've had several people call me to "Survey me about my interest in Travel Discounts" a number of times now. In many ways, the DNCL is useless.
This # 416 630 2172 keeps calling me in the past 2 weeks! The first couple of times, I missed the call and then on saturday they called @ 11:06am who does that? When you pick up, you hear faint beeps or nothing or if you call them back you get the newspaper call centre voicemail which is always full. They have even called @ 9pm at night. Don't pick up, this one is not worth your time. It seems that they want you to pick up the phone but I'm not sure for what purpose??
This number calls my cell phone number everyday but missed the calls, and I don't even live in Toronto.
I picked up finally on one of the calls after weeks of them calling every day at least once a day and was lucky to get someone instead of dead air....it is a telemarketer for the national post. got them to remove my name from the list.
From the CRTC website:If your complaint is about receiving a telemarketing call after you have been registered on the National DNCL for at least 31 days, note that the following calls are still allowed under the National DNCL rules: •Calls from telemarketers with whom you have an existing business relationship•Telemarketing calls from a charity or a political party or candidate•Telemarketing calls from newspapers soliciting subscriptions•Calls from market research or polling firms that are conducting surveys•Business-to-business callsI am not sure why newpapers soliciting subscriptions are any different from any other type of solicitations. I guess there must be someone working for the CRTC who either holds a lot of stock in a newspaper company or is related to someone who does. That's the way government works isn't it?
I work at NCC and all you have to do is tell us you want your name off the list and its off by 9:30 that night. It`s that simple their is a business for papers as we sell over 1000 subscriptions weekly. This company has been around for over 20 years and isn`t going anywhere trust me.
