510-970-1100 is legit. It's the Richmond CA Social Security Admin outbound number. I received a call from this number within four days of applying for SS online. The rep asked a lot of Qs to verify who I was, which was from my online app. He proceeded to set up my benefits under my deceased wife's SSN and I received a 6-month retro check within the next four days, plus follow-up verification re my benefits in the mail. He also provided his direct tel no, which I called back on 2-3 occasions for additional info.
I received a call from this number saying they were returning a payment that had been make twice in error. They returned to my bank account through a direct deposit. It is a ligament number.
No, I disagree. A legitimate number for the social security office would comply with federal telecommunications laws and FCC regulations, including the ones that require that the caller ID number displayed be correct, and accurately display the contact number for the organization. A recording of "this is not a working number" doesn't meet that test.
I received a call today, with this number displayed as caller ID, along with Richmond California as origin. The caller asked for me by name, but the phone line quality was poor. The caller gave a name, which was previously unknown to me, and stated he was calling from Social Security Administration. My SSDI claim was approved in 2009 back to 2007, and has been running ever since. Note: While I am not an expert in the inner workings of the Social Security Administration, it seems 99% or greater unlikely that I would ever get a phone call from anyone in the legitimate Richmond California Office, at least without moving first -- I don't live in their service area. Before someone remarks but they aren't that kind of office, they process some kind of paperwork for the whole country, let me say this: if that's the case then they don't call people, they let the field offices call people, and where I live, my field office isn't in California. Now it's quite possible that for economic reasons they built a field office and the Western Programs office into the same building... but they would still be two separate units. ---T.R.E.
Claimed to be AS A and said they would withhold benefits of I would not give them current address.
This has been going on for years and no one can put a stop to it??? Obviously, from reading over the posts, this scammer seems to know when someone has made a claim. Hmmm.... What raised the red flag for me was the cold call coming from an SSA person. Usually, they send a letter, or send an email to an online inquiry, which tells you who to call. I did call SSA and asked them to verify if anyone was trying to call me from the SSA. No, no record of anyone trying to call me. Plus why would an office in California call someone in NJ? Hmmm???? Scam.
I received a call from this number , ID read as social security admin. had all the information on me,regarding my ssi application. Did not ask for my SS number. Said, needed some clarification on my application to move forward with the processing, gave me a date of my benefits start date and approximate amount. He sounded genuine.I called the number back, got recorded message that it is a non working number.I called SS admininistartin # 800 772 1213 left message to call me back, they returned my call from the same number. I told about the call from a 510 970 1100. They told me that it is from social security office, and confirmed the call history from their computer record, including the name of the person who called me. RELAX, It is OK
This is a legit number. I was just approved for SSDI last week and the caller wanted to set up disbursement of funds.
