This number is Legitimate! It is the OUT-GOING-ONLY number for Social Security processing office in Richmond, CA. You cannot call it back! It is just like a DO-NOT-REPLY email. Their toll-free number for incoming calls is (877) 772-3794. If you don't know the extension, they can connect you directly to representative who called you.
This is not a scam, the 51o number is outgoing only! You call back toll-free - - - (877) 772-3794 - - they'll connect you to the rep that called you.

This number is the Social Security Administration - District Office on Garrity Way in Richmond, CA. My caller ID showed "Social Security Admin". My wife received a call from them yesterday advising her as to when she can expect to start receiving SSA benefits. This was a follow-up call from an inquiry my wife made to the central SSA office in Washington DC.
The 510-970 1100 number is not a scam. It is a valid Social Security number. Soc. Sec called me left a message to call back on another 510 area code number the next morning, Saturday April 11, 2015. Gave only the 1st name. When I called Saturday morning he was busy but would call back in 10 minutes. He called back and the number showed up as the 510 970-1100 caller ID. He was very professional and did not ask for my social security number but just had some questions on my online form about my dependent child which he named. Not invasive at all. Very polite. Said he would mail a form out so my dependent could get an additional payout from social security. Very helpful and put my mind to rest. This is the real Social Security!
Got a call Friday from "Bryce Daniels" saying he was calling from SS office. He asked me to verify my mother's maiden name. I said---YOU CALLED ME so, no, I would not verify my mother's maiden name. I asked him to tell me why he was calling me on my cell phone and what he was calling about. He said until I verified he was talking to the correct person by verifying my mothers maiden name, he could not tell me what he was calling about. I asked him how, if he could not verify that he was calling from SS, how do I know who I am talking to. He gave me his name and after checking something, gave me the direct phone number to SS where you end up in IVR hell. He said I could call there and they would verify who he is. He never said...then call me back...or they will connect us....nothing. I said, nice try and hung up. When I called the 540-970-1100 number back, a recording said I had reached a non-working number.
Just got a call from 540-970-1100 (caller ID said Stockton,CA - Social Security Admin). A lady with a Asian accent has all my personal information. Never asked me to verify who I was (just by name), asked for my bank account info (I do not have any). Said processing my account. Going to verify number monday (after 5:00pm/pst) now and find out if it is a scam.
UPDATE: This was a fishing phone call. Spoke to the Social Security representative and they NEVER make calls like that. She even informed us to report it ASAP.
I received a call from 510 970-1100 with caller id SOCIAL SEC ADMIN. The person was following up on an online application for Social Security benefits. She just asked for the last 4 digits of my social, mother's maiden name and birth city. She also had info that I had on the application form, so I wasn't worried if the call was legit or not. About a half hour after the call, I started to think if the call was really legit or not. I did try calling the number back, and did get the message that it was a non working number. I called the Social Security Administration contact number to verify that this was legitimate, and the person verified that it was. She told me that there were comments noted under my account from the person that originally called. WHEW, it's safe!
Sounds to me like you are part of the scam. How could someone pull off a call from the number recited....they were in that office idiot. The map point to a southern state as to where this number is from, not CA. Also, they call on one 800 number and ask you to call back on a different 800 number. I do not think so. You should have signed in as ScamMan.
