You are talking about third parties making recordings. Third parties are people who are neither the caller nor the number being called. Wiretaps are one example.A few states in the USA require permission of both parties before calls can be recorded. Many states require only the permission of one party, which means the called party can make all the recordings they want without notifying the caller. Please state your state.
They can't put it to collections because there is no proof. An invoice from them doesn't count. They are infuriating, and relentless, but they can't ruin your credit. It's all words to blackmail you into paying a fake bill.
I just got of the phone with Pat Armstrong. Was a bit misled at first....she came over as a legit person for a sec. But I realized soon that it would be silly to hunt me down for a stand out payment for a little-bit over $200.- for an advertisement they published without my permission 3 years ago. I never signed to approve. 'But we have a verbal recorded agreement' Pat said and according to her that was the same as signing a contract. She was loosing her mask here a bit and the devil came a bit through in her voice. I stayed calm and suggested that I would like to contact my lawyer first and asked for her information. And then I googled and BINGO! Same place I end up every time after a new caller is put on my case. So nice to be not alone! I feel for you all people.Curent Employee....I have a suggestion how to help us out....PLACE A FREAKING BOMB! And you will receive the Nobel Price for Peace. No don't do it, I am just ranting. But gather as much evidence and step to the police. Be an undercover spy with back up.
This has been going on for me since Aug 2010 today is April 23 2013.Please contact the Canadian Competition Bureau and file a complaint. BBB does not do this besides Cedar has a F rating with them, Cedar refused in 2010 to take anymore complaints from BBB after over 45 were sent to them. These people are scam artists and use scare tactics and intimidation, they want you to just give in and pay them to go away.Hold strong and just stop taking all their calls, ignore them and file your complaint with the Competition Bureau.
I have been dealing with this same issue for over three years now, a proof was faxed to me, I shredded it and ignored it, yada yada, same story as everyone else. Three years later, I still get the threatening calls, and I get a collection notice threatening a lawsuit from a company called Canadian Credit Management stating they were hired by cedar publishing to handle my case....odd part is, it was faxed from cedar publishing, I traced the number. Threatening phone calls, even been called dead beat scum by one of their employees. Last year i was even contacted by the CBC national news. They sent a reporter and camera crew to my home and we conducted an interview regarding this issue and the way they improperly conduct their business, they found out about them from one of the many forums online with numerous reports of the same issues. I have always said if they can produce a proof to me that has my signature authorizing it, I will pay the bill within minutes, but they cannot. Do a little homework everyone, they practice a technique called a Negative Sale Option. Simply put, by not signing the proof and faxing it back, it gives them the authorization to run the add. In Canada, that is illegal. The Service Alberta website states "it is an offense to use Negative Option to sell goods or services". The Fair Trade act, Division 3, Negative Option Practices definition "Negative Option Practice means a consumer transaction in which a supplier (a) provides goods or services to a consumer, including the enhancement of a service that a consumer is already receiving, that the consumer did not request, and, (b) requires the consumer to pay for the goods or services unless the consumer informs the supplier that the consumer does not want the goods or services. chapter 22 "A consumer is not Liable to pay for any goods or services received under a negative option practice". Chapter 23, "No supplier may supply goods or services to a consumer through a negative option practice". Check the bottom of the proof they send you. Mine clearly states, and I quote direct from the copy of my proof, "please fax your approval, or changes back as soon as possible to (780) 454-3206, if we do not have any changes back by (date) 3 pm, we will assume it may run as is. This is a clear contravention of both Service Alberta, as well as the fair trade act. Unless their lawyers have more power than the Government and are able to overrule the Fair Trade Act, then they are clearly breaking the law. Stand up for yourselves everyone, they are trying to bully everyone, I saw on another forum they did this to a sixteen year old and charged him over $900.00, he was too young to understand they were in the wrong and he was not, so he used the money he saved from working all summer and paid it. I really do hope they decide litigation against me. With both the government and the Fair Trade Act on our sides, I would love to make an example of them. My next step is CTV Edmonton, the people helper would be great publicity for this to inform everyone. I'm thinking a class action suit won't be far away against them, they have already been sued by Edmonton Fire Rescue, the City of Edmonton, and Crimestoppers...all of which Cedar Publishing decided to settle out of court to avoid any prosecution. Due Diligence everyone, hold your ground, they are breaking the law and the only way to stop them is educating yourself with the correct knowledge and passing on the knowledge to everyone you know to help them!
Looking for some guidance here, I have been dealing with this joke of a company for 1.5 years now over a 259.88 dollar invoice. It started with them telling me my husband agreed to the ad. Which they have a voice recording they play back to us which doesn't even sound right, it sounds like it is had be tampered with. They phone and demand payment, have insulted me for saying they are a scam. When I mentioned calling the police they left us alone for a while and told me I was crazy and he was going to call the police on me for not paying my bill. I did in fact call the police and reported it , the officer said there has been several complaints about the company, and at least have a report of conflict on file with them. They have recently started phoning and faxing and mailing us the bills again, claiming if we don't pay it is going to collections Canadian credit Management 888-454-3349 is on the letter regards, by a Leah Greenway. Wondering what everyone else has done, did you give in and pay and if not did it ever end up in collections?
Hi SW!Don't worry! We've been playing this fun little game with Cedar Publishing for FOUR years next month (good times!)We've been insulted, attacked, threatened, blablablablabla. They've told us they're going to send us to collections, which is awesome, because I'm totally ready to take their fake invoicing scam to another level. They sent us a letter from Canadian Credit Management too telling us to "Govern Yourself Accordingly" (which is hilarious, since they're scam artists.)Anyways, this so called letter doesn't even have our name on it, and it's a crooked photocopy. No legit collections agency just send out letters without a name! FURTHERMORE - and this is the very best part - the number on the Canadian Credit Management letterhead is 888-454-3349.The number for Cedar Publishing is - hold your horses, here's where it gets good - 780-454-3349.Yeah. These morons are using their own regular phone number, adding an 888 exchange (which is just a toll free forwarding service - it goes right to the 780 mailbox) and pretending to be a collections agency. Boy, aren't they just so darn crafty? Throw your letters and invoices from Cedar Publishing in the garbage. They're fraudsters, they're ripoff artists, and your heard earned money should never, ever be in their greasy little palms.Tigger
We told them they were a scam and that Moe is a scum bag and begged them to take us to court. They just kept calling and finally went away. I miss the calls from the gravel voiced woman who changes her name from time-to-time pretneding to be someone else. Don't pay.
It feels good to know that I am not the only one. I never authorized a proof either, here it is 5 years later and I get a call from a collection agency! These people are scam artists! I will be calling the above mentioned RCMP Officer.
