This number is scam!!! I called PNC and they have no affiliation to this number. Please do not give them any information. What I did to get them to stop calling me is, I called them, pressed 0 until I got a person and then asked for my number to be removed from the list. She pushed to get more information but I repeated that she had incorrectly called me and I want my number off the list. Again, this is not PNC and is a scam...

800-225-5671 is a valid number from PNC. I called their customer service number first (you will find it on the back of your card) and then was transferred to their fraud department. They knew about certain unusual charges I had made. I suggested to them that they call from a number that I already know about. This number is for debit cards, one ending in 5618 is for credit cards.

Absolutely is PNC! They called to confirm unusual charges on my account. Certainly appreciated the call and yet another reason I've been with for more than 15 years.

Seems the Professor pontificates upon that which he knows not of. Local branch confirmed it is ONE of the toll free numbers to their Fraud Department.

This is not fraud. This is PNC's loss prevention line, they're calling you because activity on your card looks like it might be fraudulent. In the message that is left they identify who they are, the last four digits of a card you have, and that they know your phone number since they've called it. It is highly unlikely that a phisher using an autodialer would be able to correctly match the last four digits of a card you have with the correct billing phone number you have with your bank; it's even less likely that they would randomly dial people with and give them a random four digit number expecting to get anywhere. When you call back the system does the following:1. Reads the number it thinks you called from and asks you to confirm that it has identified it correctly.2. Asks you to enter the last four digits of the card you got a call about.3. Asks you to enter you're billing zip code.1 and 2 we can already confirm they know since they called your number and gave you the last four of your credit card so it is low risk to give them. 3 is publically available. Unless you are being actively targeted for fraud, there is very little risk with complying becausea. whoever called already has 1 and 2 and could easily get the third.b. you're not giving them any more info. Finally the system reads you a list of recent transactions and asks you to confirm (yes or no) that they're valid. This two is info random phishers wouldn't have.So yes this is a valid number, but if you're still concerned call the 800 number on your card and try to work the issue that way (you're likely going to have a bit of trouble here because their CSA's likely aren't familiar with the number and process unless they're a customer and have been through it themselves)... or you could ignore it thinking it's fraud and complain if they choose to shut down you card at an inconvenient time.

It's PNC card fraud. I have unauthorized charges on my account, and they were calling to verify it was me. Not only did they call and leave a voicemail, but I also WALKED to my PNC branch to verify. It's a legit number for them.As usual, if wary, just go to your local branch directly, which is what I did.Professor has NOOOO IDEA what he's talking about.

PNC declined the charge on my account, and I still received the call about it. I never saw the actual "attempt" on my account. It's possible they declined it for lack of balance, or just out of suspicion. It's a legit PNC bank call. I just went through this with them. I hope you went into a branch and got a new card from them!
