It is a legit #. Called back to the PNCBANK # and talked with fraud department. Someone had gotten my debit card # at the only place I used it one day and had been making small purchases for the past several. I hadn't looked at my account since payday because was busy but someone racked up $400 in charges. Look at your bank account EVERY DAY if you're out and about and using your card. You never know. I could have put a stop to this several days ago and saved myself $$. Now have to get card replaced and wait for investigating before getting my $$ back. I'm done using this card, however, and will only use a charge card NOT connected to my bank account with a small credit line in the future.
Just got a call from this number claiming it was from PNC bank asking for card numbers and social. Looked at my acct, it was fine then called the 800 PNC bank. Lady checked, said it was NOT from them. That I did right in not giving that information.
Got three more calls from this number. I know its a scam, cause my name darn sure is not Santa, that's who the recording asked for. I text the number and told them to stop calling me I didn't have an acct with PNC and the calls stopped.
Received several calls from this number. First was a live voicemail saying to call the listed number back. When I called back, it was a recording of my name and the last four digits of my card and a live person came on the phone. I repeated why I was calling back and they asked for my card number. I asked to whom I was speaking with and they hung up. I received another call last night and another voice recording when I answered. I just returned from PNC and they said that PNC NEVER asks for your card number. If they suspect any activity, they will call and ask for the last few transactions made on your card. Needless to say, I've blocked that number from my phone.
This is a legit number for the fraud prevention service of PNC Bank. For all the morons claiming it is a scam because they call you at the same time that fraudulent activity happens..... thats because that is what they are SUPPOSED TO DO. When suspicious activity triggers them to shutdown your account they call you to verify whether or not you made or attempted to make the transaction. that is how their system works in order to prevent further fraud or to verify that it was you and to give you back access to your funds.
I received a call from this number about 5 minutes ago telling me they were from PNC. Said it was in reference to my debit card and gave me the last 4 digits. It then asked me to verify my name by pressing 1. Then it asked me to key in my zip code and I hung up and called PNC. Whenever I get an automated call supposedly from PNC re flagged charges on my debit card, I hang up and call PNC. That's what I did and they seemed to think it was a scam/phishing attempt since he did not see any flagged transactions on my account. I gave them the phone number.
If you doubt it (as I did) just go to your branch, I pulled up the number on my phone and they told me it was one of their numbers after searching on her computer. But appearing to call from that number doesn't necessarily make them PNC reps as that's easy to fake. I would always suggest you call the number on your card if you get this kind of call and ask to be transferred to the correct department or go in person to the bank.
