This seems to be a legitimate call from PNC security. I received this call after spending an unusually large amount of money in one day while shopping online. I'm guessing this activity was flagged as suspicious, so I got this call to confirm it. They already had my name and last four digits, and only asked for my zip code to confirm my identity, NOT my ssn. I quite appreciate the fact that they were so quick to react to this in the event that there were actually bad charges.Of course, if I find my account drained in a couple of days I will update this accordingly, but I don't expect that to happen.
I reporting a call 800 225 5671 saying the call was urgent from PNC. I knew it was a scan. I will report this to my bank, and if my account is tampered I will call my attorney.
Received a call frm this number about suspicious charges on my wife's debit card. Checked our online account with PNC and there were just under $1000 of charges from various online merchants we had never visited. Called this number and they said there was a new additional charge for a hotel in South Carolina. Caller from this number verified that these were not made by us, and gave my wife instructions to go to the branch bank the next day. They sent her a new card. This is a legitimate number. A week later, I got a call from a number that said it was PNC Bank, and my Visa credit card number had been being used by someone, so it is being d/c'd and they are sending me a different one. Weird that we would have 2 different card numbers stolen from us in such a short time period, but so far it hadn't cost us anything.
This is NOT a SCAM. They left me a voicemail saying there was fraudulent activity on my PNC Debit Card. Sure enough, someone wiped out the entire account in one fell swoop at a big box retailer. If you get a call from this number, call PNC!
We got a call from this number and my husband did call back and provided all the information. After realizing he may have been taken in by a scam, I called 1-888-PNC-BANK and verified the number WAS a valid number AND that all the account activity promised by the girl my husband called had indeed taken place on PNC side. Its valid. I understand the negativity and the naysayers - all I know is I'm thankful PNC is watching out for us and our account activity.
I have received six calls in a row from this number. It is a scam- they will ask for your full card number- DO NOT give them your information. I have reported this to PNC and suggest you do the same.
Completely Legit! It's PNC automated fraud response.Said to call urgent information about PNC card...blah blah blah. Called back, asked to input number message was left, said my name on the card, then asked for the zip. After that brought up all my account transactions in question. All of which were legit as well. They can't get any info from the last 4 digits of your card, a phone number, and zip. So it's pretty safe. A pizza place already has all that info on your receipts.
Totally legit in my case. The initial message even introduces themselves as PNC security. They were challenging an internet purchase I really made that came through a Chinese debit card clearing house as well as two local restaurant purchases I also made in the same 24 hours. The machine asked for minimally risky information to authenticate me (last digits of card, phone number, zip code) and then prompted me to approve or deny the questionable charges. Exactly what I would hope my bank would do.
just got a call from this number and answered it - they asked me to verify my info and asked me to input my billing zip code. something didn't feel right about it so i hung up and now i'm glad i did!
This is a legitimate number to PNC Bank. It is an automated system. Scammers can spoof the number and make it look like they are calling from this number on the caller ID that is where a lot of the confusing posts come from. But if you call the number back directly or the regular PNC number you will be fine. They can't change the way the phone company routes the phone number. Asking info like your zipcode is not sensitive personal data. It's essentially public knowledge. But they are calling you (again your number can't be rerouted easily) so they don't need to ask for much more information to confirm they are speaking the actual customer. If you call in to them from a number that is not listed as a home phone in their system they will ask for further verification (like the last 4 of your social security number etc). They have to because you didn't provide any information verifying yourself.
