This is a legit number for Chase Bank Fraud Prevention for credit cards. You see so many card brands in the comments that is because these card brands are partner cards with Chase (meaning the credit card issuer is Chase bank - Amazon, AARP, Disney are brands but are not a bank. They'll need an actual bank to issue the card and service it). The reason this number is so frequently mistaken for fraud is because of SPOOFING, were a fraudster can use a legit number as their caller ID to obtain personal information. If you get a call or get asked to return a call to this number, you either have someone applying for a card using your information; or if you applied and didn't get approved right away, there may be some discrepancies in your application that needs to be resolved. Safest is to call Chase customer service and ask to be transferred to Verifications for credit cards before you disclose anything. Don't lash out on the reps if you're frustrated because the legit ones may just be doing their job. Thank them later. ☺

This is a legit number - I applied for a Chase Marriott Account online at Marriott's website and it said Chase will be contacting me regarding the account. This call came a week after ht and it's Chase calling to confirm that I did indeed apply for the card. They asked me to verify my phone number and sent me a code by text that I had to read back to her to verify it was me saying it was ok to process the application.

I received several calls from this number about credit fraud and then received a letter from allegedly from Chase Bank advising they had received a credit card application in my name and using my social security and wanted to confirm I had applied for this card. I called Chase from online number and confirmed they had no record of my name , address and phone number and confirmed this 800 number is not associated with Chase and said do not call this 800 number or give any information because it is a scam attempt. The grammar in the letter did not seem to be written by a native English speaker. If you think this number is legit than you are part of the scam or a sucker. Note: this number was tracked to a rural very small town in Texas.

SCAM or PHISHING. This number must be a scam or phishing for information. Called Chase direct and they did not have an open application.

Yes, this is correct. Chase has a contract with United Airlines to service their customers. If you are ever suspicious of any callers, simply advise them you will call the 800# on the back of your Credit Card. If the caller is legit, this should pose no problem. Be advised, you may have a hold on your card until security is passed, so do not ignore a call like that.

" hey asked me for the following information:1. did I request the credit card (I said no)2. I had to verify my name3. I had to verify a previous (not current) address that would show up in my credit history4. I had to verify an employer that would show up in my credit historyand that was it. No mention of social security number, birthdate, or other personal information that's not already available to everybody for free."-------------------------------------------------------------------------This is a very good post. Any call claiming there has been an account opened in your name needs to be taken seriously. Also the caller - if legitimate - will know your correct social security number, date of birth. Also, through bank resources, they can find your current mailing address, home phone (even unlisted) and sometimes your cell number, so there is NO NEED to give any of that information out.If you are suspicious, just ask the name of the bank - NOT THE MERCHANTS NAME ON THE CARD - (AOL, Continental Airlines, Home Depot, Borders, BestBuy ...). After the caller tells you the banks name, simply advise the caller you will call them back & hang up.Do a Google search for that banks credit card customer service 800#, they all have them.Call that 800# & tell the bank representative that you just received a call from their fraud department & you are calling to verify if it truly was their bank who contacted you.Note - the bank representative will ask you for your social security number. Go ahead & give it to them. The reason being is because it's you who are calling them and it's you who knows you are truly talking to, not the other way around. In general just remember, when in doubt, you contact them or go to a local branch.

I also recieved a message from Chase asking me to call this number. I currently have a fraud alert set on my credit so they have to call me when i apply for a new account. they asked me :1. Verify my Name,2. verify my Previous address,3. then asked me 2 multiple choice questions: 3a. When did i purchase property at an address, 3b. What vehicle did i recently purchase, cosign, or lease. They never asked for any information except my name and prevous address. this is a ligit call.

This is the weirdest call. I received a call from this number and called back with my reference number. I was asked a series of questions where it seemed obvious that they KNEW the answers already to things which are generally public knowledge, but would be tedious for 1 NON-BANK/CREDIT CARD COMPANY/CREDIT BUREAU to compile. For example, multiple previous addresses where I lived, but never owned or was a renter (lived with a friend, CC bills went there), mother's birthday, employer (they gave me these as multiple choice or half-answer questions where I answered the other half or the correct multiple choice wtf?). Basically they told me that someone had applied for a CC in my name. He did ask for my social and DOB which I did not provide. He left off telling me to change my passwords online and inform the credit bureaus of this situation. So weird. If this is NOT legit, these guys are good????

I called the number and the guy was cagey. But I called Chase back on the main line. They transferred me to the applications dept and the reference number checked out. This time the card that Chase was representing was a Disney card. I had not applied for a Disney card, so they closed the application as fraud. After calling back through the Chase main line and getting the same answers. I am pretty sure that this is legit.

Since I didn't give them an answer over the phone. I instead received mail from them, claiming that it's from Chase bank. The mail wants me to confirm information in an alleged credit application I made with Chase and to call 800-278-8830. I checked the number out and found this. How can we report this fraud? The zip code from the mail reflects Coppell, Texas. Maybe the police can trace it from the post since it is machine stamped?

Robo-dialer caller. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. DO NOT ANSWER or your phone number will be called again and again. They use several different caller-id numbers similar to 636-235-xxxx. NEVER USE THE WORD "Yes" when a robo-dialer calls you.
