Yes some of them are rude! They called today, looking for an ex of mine who hasn't been alive since 2006. I called them back and when I asked what the company was, the receptionist woman refused to tell me, then said "NRA." I said, "The National Rifle Association?" in a very obviously disgusted voice(LOL I guess you can tell I take the Democrat views on gun control!) She said no, so I asked her again who this was and she again refused to tell me. Shady! Then I told her that my ex was dead and she got haughty with me and hung up on me. Ugh! I called back 20 mins later and a nicer receptionist answered, but she still didn't explain what kind of company it was and she kept asking if my ex had an estate. When she said "National Recovery," I thought it was perhaps something drug/alcohol related. Go figure this was a collections agency...I was right to be skeptical of them the first time! >:( Stupid collectors...serves them right they can't collect on a dead man! Heh!
800-360-4319 definitely belongs to a "boiler room" type of debt collection agency. Among other things, they specialize in "graveyard or resurrection debts", a totally illegal scam whereby they dig up old accounts that are no longer legally collectable or even reportable to credit reporting agencies because they are "time barred" from legal action (3-5 years depending on the State)as well as over the 7-year limit for reporting imposed by the U.S. Fair Debt Reporting Act. They keep calling and intimidating people into paying debts that in many cases are not even theirs. Their favorite scam is to call the relatives of a deceased person and collect alleged unpaid medical bills. The fact that the medical bills were in fact paid by the deceased or his/her insurance does'nt matter, they simply pocket the money. Report all calls from 800-360-4319 to the State Attorney's Office in your State.
I've been receiving calls from this number, at least twice each week for a good month. The voicemail is never complete. It only says, "Master number XXXX" Please call us." I have not called the number back, especially after reading the entries here
Good of you to provide the BBB info 007. I would suggest that complaints to the Pennsylvania State Attorney's office may be equally effective as calling the BBB. As someone pointed out, the BBB will not keep your personal information private. National Recovery may even be a paid-up member of the BBB, as any business can be, wether they are being complained about or not. The State Attorney's office on the other hand may keep your info private; be sure and ask if/when you call them.
pain in the *** caller all times day and night incl. sundays and holidays. wont stop calling .I owe them no debt.
Dear C. Hiller. They are calling your church phone number because it is somehow tied to someone who died and had medical bills (paid or unpaid) before they died. Its called a "resurrection scam." They are looking for someone they intimidate into paying alleged bills left by the deceased.
Jennifer really loves leaving messages for my girlfriend--likes to call several times a week. Same pre-recorded information each time left on my girlfriends voicemail. About 3 weeks ago, or so, a real live person has been doing the same. Sometimes a male voice, sometimes female.I've called the number they left her, from a pay phone--no one that answers will tell me anything, but they sure are determined to find out about me.If this is a scam--I hope no one gets ripped off!
I want to say thanks to everyone on this site. These people..AKA Jennifer and some black guy have been harrassing me for months. They claim I have a past due hospital bill when I use to live in another state. This bill should have been payed by the insurance company..I shouldn't owe anything. This guy called me and I asked how he got my new number, when I no longer live in that state where he claims I have a past due bill. He said "they tracked you down maam" like I was some fugitive! Then he asked my new address which I gave him, and he asked me a lot of personal questions. I just recieved a bill from these people. I am so glad I read the comments about them on this site. Now I can contact the hospital directly and find out if I owe anything. I can finally get rid of them. I am also going to send the letter like someone earlier had suggested. Thanks again, and I hope others benefit from this as well.
