Hey, Joe Smith. You could have picked a more realistic name. Your post here makes it seem as though you work for the scammers. I contacted three employees at Chase Bank (by phone and in person), and all three of them advised that 800-366-1962 is not used by Chase Bank.
Made a checking account transfer using Chase Pay, it went to pending review, and received a call from this number shortly afterwards to verify that transfer. The phone system only wanted my zip code for verification and gave full accurate detail about the transfer, including amount and destination account #. I see people losing their minds here that it's fraudulent based on one part of Chase customer service not knowing about the #, but when I was expecting the call, it read accurate information about my transfer, there is no conclusion except that the number itself is accurate. Whether there are scammers faking the callerID for actual fraudulent calls is a different matter
I received a call from this number (800-366-1962). It was an automatic message that claimed to be from Chase to verify a transfer. Since I was suspicious about it, I called the official number printed on the back of the Chase debit card (800-935-9935). The Chase representative checked and verified that this number (800-366-1962) is actually affiliated with Chase. She also said that the call was just to notify me about this transaction, and no additional action is required on my side.I have not called back to 800-366-1962, and I have not received any further calls from this number. So far so good.I encourage anyone who is suspicious about this number to make a phone call directly to the official Chase number, and a representative will most likely explain the details to you.
Received a call from 1-800-366-1962 today and after checking this site decided to go into the bank to verify. It is a legitimate Chase number calling.
Like many others here, I received a call from this number. They did not leave a message, which is unusual for Chase (I've gotten legitimate calls regarding fraud alerts before, and they always leave a message). I called up the number the private client debit card (generally a pretty competent team), who confirmed that there were no fraud alerts on my accounts and that the number is not in their system. Seemingly, this number is illegitimate, from my understanding.I saw someone mention above that they were transferred to an automated system that asked for their debit card security code, expiration, and PIN. The writer inferred from there that this was fraudulent. I can confirm that this is a system that Chase uses to verify identity for banking transactions, and i have been asked to do this numerous times when legitimately calling Chase. (I can also confirm that the representative may ask for the last four digits your debit card below transferring you to system, but the system never asks for card number.) The usage of this system does not in itself indicate that the number is fraudulent. If they are fraudulent (which I am inclined to believe they are), they are just good fakers that know how to imitate the legitimate system.
Called Chase and confirmed this is a SCAM. I'm amazed these jerks have people come here and claim it's legit. Why the hell would so many of us come here and claim that an actual Chase number was a scam? If you get one of these calls, call the number on the back of your card.
800-366-1962 may be a legit Chase phone number but that does NOT mean the call was legit: Caller ID is so easily faked it could well have been a scammer calling. If you get one of these calls, even if the Caller ID number is a legit Chase number, you should hang up without giving them ANY information and then call the number printed on the back of your credit card. If the original call was legit (unlikely) you haven't lost anything. If the original call was fake you've saved yourself a world of trouble.
