Same thing happened to me, and I too thought scam, but this is really their fraud department. I gave very limited info, they told me there was fraud, gave detailed info about the charge and other legitimate charges I'd made days ago. Then I had them cancel my account. It really is gone when I log on to check my online. Can a scam do that? No. Stop worrying. It's the real deal. The ones that insist it's fake are trolls and liars.
Legitimate number for Chase fraud prevention, but be safe and call the number printed on the card. Initially, I called the number they left in the message but the person on the other end sounded so unprofessional I got suspicious and hung up. I then called the number printed on the card (person was equally unprofessional sounding) but they confirmed for me that the initial number was legit.
Chase handles many credit cards with airlines and stores. If you have one of these cards, Chase fraud may well be trying to contact you. The bank does not have to have offices in your area for you to hold a credit card with them. Alternatively, someone signing up for a card may have provided your phone number in error. The do not call list applies only to solicitation calls, not to calls relating to existing business relationships. Chase fraud dept could not have had your number unless someone gave it to them, and they aren't trying to sell you anything. And, to be blunt, one of the things that is wrong with this culture is self-important people "tattling to the teacher" every time the wind blows. Get over yourself.
This is a legitimate Chase Fraud number. I got this number in a Chase email asking if I made a specific charge. I had the option to simply reply Yes or No, or call 800-454-9078. I immediately went to this website to see if it was a legit number, and saw so may Yes & SCAMs that I still didn't know. Being as cautious as I am about fraud, I called Chase using the number on the back of my card. I also logged into my account and found the fraudulent charge noted in the email (which I saw was also removed - Thank you Chase, I'm impressed). The Chase operator verified the 800 number as legit. They also cancelled my account, opened a new one for me, and are issuing me a new credit card. Someone should remove all the SCAM messages as it is very confusing.
FAKE!!!!! SCAM!!!!!Received a text message and a voicemail (robot call) alleging fraudulent activity on my chase card ending in 0538. asked me to call 888-824-2736. I dont have a chase card in 0538. Called the legitimate Chase number on back of my debit card. They assured me this number is fake or has been masked . Why call me on (1) number and then divert me to another? Because they can mask the incoming call and fake you out on caller ID but cant mask and fake the outgoing call.
OF COURSE they blocked the card. That is standard practice. Would you rather they left it open and let a fraudster max it out? And they tried to tell you, but you refused to listen when they called. People like you are the reason customer service people hate the public. You get exactly the service you claim to want, but then [***] about it anyway. The problem is not the system. It's your lousy attitude and unjustified sense of entitlement. The fault was yours, not Chase's, and certainly not the person you spoke to. But you could never admit that, could you? Narcissistic much?
No, you're wrong. It is a Chase number. Don't know where you got your info, but you were told wrong.
I got a message on my answering machine from this number and checked my online account. Sure enough, there was an unauthorized charge that was made an hour earlier. I called the number on the back of my credit card for assurance. They confirmed that there was an unauthorized charge and we cancelled my credit card. My advice to others if you get a call from this number: check your account online and then call the phone number on the back of your card.
