Got a voice mail on our main business number from "Unknown", caller ID # 877-275-3819. The first part of the message was cut off, but it said, "...54-9078 to verify this activity. Again, the number is 800-454-9078. We're open 24 hours, 7 days a week." I called the number on caller ID. It said it was Chase Bank Card Services, and asked me to enter the 6-digit code left on my message. There was no 6-digit code on the message, so I held. An operator picked up and said, "Chase Credit Card Services." I told her that I had gotten a message on my business phone, and that our business does not use Chase bank. I asked if they normally call non-customers and leave messages. She said no and asked for our phone number. I hung up and dialed 800-454-9078. A recorded voice said, "Welcome to Chase Fraud Operations. Please enter your CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT NUMBER." I hung up. Looks like a scam to me.
So what if this is a legit number for Chase? Who cares? It's completely irrelevant. The rule is this -- people must NEVER give out info to a stranger human or robot who calls them, or call a bank number given to them by the stranger but must always call the regular number they use to conduct business with their bank. Problem solved! Potential scammer avoided!ONLY SCAMMER SHILLS WANT VICTIMS TO GIVE AWAY THEIR INFO OR CALL BACK ON THE SAME NUMBER WHEN SCAMMERS CALL.
I was wary as fraud as well and did not call back on 800-454-9708.I did call back on the service # listed on the back of my credit card ....got through to service and YES there were fraudulent charges on my account ...we closed the account and I'm getting a new card.....so I guess the phone numer is legit ...but I would still only call the number on my card to be safe
You are the fool. That number is for Chase Fraud Services. Try Google, if you have the wits to figure out how to use it.
I actually got an email about potential fraudulent charges on my Chase card and the email had this phone number in it. Before calling it I Googled the number and was just more confused about whether the number was legit or not. Seems like about 50/50 between people professing one way or the other. Since I was not sure I simply called the number on my credit card. When I talked to a rep I explained why I did not call the number in the email. They helped me thru getting my card cancelled and a new card issued BUT they did assure me that the phone number in the email I received and the email were both legitimate and from/for Chase.
This is a legit number for CHASE! When I saw Credit Card Svc on caller ID, I assumed it was another annoying telemarketer. However, it was Chase Fraud Unit and they did leave a message questioning a suspicious charge on our Visa card. They also alerted my husband via email that someone in NJ was trying to buy an RV for $16,000 using our credit card, which we still have in our possession. Good job, Chase! Not a very bright thief to try to charge such a large amount. Hard to say how our card info was stolen. We have not shopped at Target in well over a year, so we can't blame them. Have made a lot of online purchases the past couple of months. Apparently, a conterfeit card was made using our info. So, be alert people! Frequently check your accounts online for unauthorized charges and report them immediately.
Activation is simply acknowledgement that you received the card. The number can potentially be compromised anyway; for instance, scammers now have random number generators that bombard websites with a combination of credit card numbers and expiration dates until they get a matched set; thus the small charges that are often the pre-cursor to larger fraud. And they don't get a fee for sending a new card. It actually costs the bank to do that.If people like yourself who have no idea what they are talking about would be quiet, the world would be a much more peaceful place.
