Not sure if this is a scam, or not, but I still get calls every day from this number. I did speak with someone one time and she was very persistent in trying to have me agree to a postdated check for a past due amount. I refused because if I had the money, I would already have paid the past due amount. In my opinion, she was rude and rather obnoxious toward me. I've been a Verizon customer for 12+ years and never before had an overdue balance, so please, give me a little slack? Overall, Verizon has been very good and I intend to stay with them as a customer. BTW, while on a call with customer service, the representative confirmed the number as theirs.
This IS Verizon...they call when your bill is past due by more than 30 days. You know if you have not paid your bill or not, phishers wouldn't know that. So if you have not paid your bill, you know it's real.
I have had a call go right to voice mail. I get an incomplete msg with this phone number. Anyone brave enough to call?
Why is it that I suspect that half the people posting here saying that it is not a scam are the scammers themselves?
I received a call from this number (8007540961) and spoke with someone who claimed to be from Verizon Wireless. Upon questioning the person calling, several red flags were raised. (I called Verison Wireless and this number is NOT associated with Verizon Wireless.) In fact the person who called stated that my account was past due and that the due date was such and such date. I knew better since I recently made a payment and the account is current. When I questioned if this person was in fact from Verizon Wireless, he stated that he was because he had my password. The password he gave me was not correct. Second red flag. I told this person that I will contact Verizon Wireless to clear this. He then stated for me to return his call at the 800 stated above. Third red flag. DO NOT GIVE ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION OUT TO THIS NUMBER, NOR DO NOT CONTACT THEM. This is an attempt to gain your personal information. I hope this helps.
Several threads like this are divided between belief and denial that a given company name is behind the calls. I've long theorized that both answers could be true. If you really want to fool people into thinking your scam comes from a legitimate place, spoofing the trusted firm's numbers would be a natural part of the plan.
Same message as you, except the first part was cut off, so I do not know if they were claiming to be Verizon. Sadly, I no longer work for Verizon so I can't look up the unpublished info myself, BUT, the envelope for the voice mail says the call is from THIS NUMBER: (615) 372-2999Type: Land LineProvider: South Central BellLocation: Nashville, TNWhich is NOT Verizon.
Keep getting calls and when I call back they ask for my cell phone number. Sometimes 3 or 4 times a day.
Received a voice mail on my cell phone(which is NOT Verizon)at 11:11 AM today from 949-286-3311. They advised me to call back to Verizon Wireless at 800-754-0961 regarding my account. Since I HAVE NO ACCOUNT with Verizon I did not return the call and never return this type of call anyway. Probably looking for personal information. I suggest ignoring these calls.
