Received a call from this number earlier this afternoon. I didn't answer it since I didn't know who it was. They did not leave a message and I did not call back since they didn't leave a message. I looked up the number online and saw that it was supposed to be Capital One, which I do have an account with. I have not made any transactions in the past few months and am always on time with my payments. I checked my account online and everything looks good, no recent transactions, no late fees. I find it hard to believe that it was just marketing since Capital One is constantly mailing out offers, never calling me with them. Capital One has only called me once in the entire time that I've had a card with them, and that was a few years ago when I made a huge shopping purchase after not using my card for so long. They wanted to make sure that it was actually me who made the purchase.
Called the number and got the same "enter your 16-digit ID." Hung up and called Capital One's customer service number on the back of my card. The guy said I had received a couple of promotional calls. When I told him the voice said "Capital One, enter your 16-digit ID," that stopped him cold and he had me hold the phone. When he came back I told him Capital One knew my 16-digit ID so why were they asking me for it. He decided that this was a scam call (duh).
I'm going to go ahead and call [***]. First, I've left cards pass their expiration, for multiple companies, and no one has ever called with a friendly reminder. Second, I too called the number back because I posses a Capital One card. The automated voice response asked directly for my credit card number. They even offered to take it in Spanish if I would just "Marque el dos". I did not give them my credit card number for blatantly obvious reasons. Also, phone number masking has been available for at least a couple of years now (via the interwebs). I remember my friends trying to prank me when it first came out. One actually scared another one pretty badly.I don't believe anyone who says that's the number on the back of their card's though. It's not on mine, and a google search turns up sites like this one and not the "contact us" page on capitol-freaking-one.com?
digits of your credit card is usually on a receipt. you were about to get scammed.
I'm glad I looked this one up because I've gotten this call twice. It came not to my home phone but to a prepaid cell phone i keep turned off for emergency purposes only. only a handful of people know the number and I have never used it to call but a few people I know. No message was left. Where they got my number is puzzling and if i find out verizon is selling my information i will be pissed!
Checked my Capital 1 online and they had no messages for me. I have never received calls from them until this number. I have never had a card immediately ask my credit card number, especially sinc´ they called me. This is so a fraud.
Got this call today. I picked up an this lady identified herself as someone from Capital One. She then asked if she's speaking with "my name" to which I replied yea. She then asked me for my zip code. At this point I was skeptical and did not give her my zip code. Istarted askin her who she is again. She then repeated my mailing address and asked again for my zip code so she could verify my account. At this point I knew it was a total scam and I started being rude to her and talking tough. I then told her I was teacig this phone call using my computer software and am passing it on to the FBI. Then I hung up on her. After this I calle the real CapitalOne and they said they ha no record of calling me. Go figure scammers.
They keep calling and not saying anything at all. I do not have any account with Capital One.
Wonder why they don't leave a message if it's that important. Isn't that what voicemail is for? I am at the office so I didn't answer my cellphone.
I hate to state the obvious but as you can see by some of the posts here are from the scammers themselves....The scammers are aware of this site and they post positive messages telling people that the number is legitimate.....Capital One DOES NOT make calls asking you for credit card information EVER for promotions...So Beware.....OH &BTW....We own a CALLER ID MANAGER (bought it a few years back when you could still get them) and you scammers(who are reading these posts)Hahahahahaha....MY PHONE NEVER RINGS when you call, no matter how many time you call it..I just find your number on the register in the evening when I check it and see that you were BLOCKED....HahahahahahahaLife is Good!BLOCKED.....DENIED.....:)
