It's legit. It's the Chase credit card Fraud alert service wanting to know if you submitted a CC application, which I did. I called back using another Chase tel number that was on my CC application, and they confirmed it was them. I asked why didn't they leave a message and they just apologized. So, it LEGIT!
JUST AN FYI- ALL SECURITY DEPARTMENTS WITH CREDIT CARD COMPANIES HAVE TO VERIFY YOU COMPLETELY, BEFORE RELEASING INFO. IF YOU CALL THEM THEY HAVE TO VERIFY SOMETIMES LAST 4 OF SSN, DOB, MMN, ADDRESS, AND YOUR CARD NUMBER. IF YOU RECIEVE A CALL THEY WON'T ASK YOU TO VERIFY , INLESS ITS AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM.
this number is legitimate, its from chase bank fraud alert.someone called us because thre was an authorized purchase from our chase credit card.she stopped the transaction but the other 3 unauthorized purchase were already done.she gave us a number to call(1800-955-9060) to clear up the matter.that lady who called us disabled our account right on the spot when we told her we didnt purcahse the $3447.59 from Nebraska.it turns out that the criminal was buying a guitar from the internet in that exact moment, and that lady who called us (1800-955-9060 lady)save us from more troubles.see my post in 1847 488-6000 number. This happened just this morning Jan 3,2008
Found a message on my answering machine, claiming to be Chase fraud dept. My wife called back the 955-9060 (I was at work) that they left on the message, and she told me that she had to give them our credit card number (in full), plus questions about our prior addresses and stuff like that. I freaked out when I read this post, some of them being very alarmist.So...I called the number on the back of my card, asked to be xfered to the fraud dept, and asked them if that number was legit. The guy replied right away that it was indeed legit, and they had records of them trying to contact us on that given day. I don't understand what motivates people like Tom to post alarmists posts like his. The whole thing was completely legit, but I got completely freaked out, thinking that we had fallen for a scam and that our identity had been stolen. Bottom line, the number IS LEGIT. If you are not sure, call Chase (main number on back of card), ask to be transfered to the fraud dept, and ask them about that number. I, for one, wouldn't believe it until I personnally checked.
guys, think about it. why are the number popping up now? why not before? I mean it's VISA and it's fraud prevention! i can say with certainly that their fraudulent activity began a few weeks before aug. (the first post in this forum) and was active for 5 months until today.do not trust ANYONE that CALLS YOU! Always use the NUMBER IN THE BACK of your card and NOT 8009559060!
This isn't a scam. It was, in fact, the Fraud Department at Chase. Yesterday I set up a balance transfer on an account that has been inactive for over a year. I work for another credit card company, so I'm familiar with fraud verification practices, and was not surprised to receive a call the following day. They were able to verify information off the account, and verify that my online access to the account had been temporarily blocked, due to the hold on the account. After verifying that I was the one who set up the transfer, and not an ID thief, they released the hold on the account and reinstated online access. The accents may seem suspicious, but most credit card company's outsource their calling centers to India and such.
I had the same situation. I called my branch and they told me that number I got call from 800-955-9060 is ok. NOT a Scam.
"Chase" called 3 different tel nos. w/same last name leaving message to call 800-955-9060 re: validating account activity. Late last night PDT, I made several calls to that and other Chase nos., all of which rolled to people who, I thought, asked inappropriate "verification" questions. Today, I logged on to the Chase site and sent an email asking what was going on. The (secure) response was swift, indicating they must speak to me personally, and included a different contact no. 800-436-7927. I knew immediately that no. was OK as I listened to elevator music for 5-7 minutes. The agent asked the usual identity validation questions and assured me that indeed 800-955-9060 was the direct line to Chase security.I had had an inadvertant (wrong card in the ATM)failed transaction a few days ago and that triggered the Chase response. I thought I had cleared up that issue already after 5 earlier calls to the customer service no. on the back of the card. Apparently not. Some overkill at Chase, I think. Also, their 800 no. relay colleagues in the Phillipines could use some additional training.
Call the number on the back of your card. If the call was from Chase Fraud Prevention, they will be able to find the notes on your account stating that they attempted to contact you. Ask them to go over all of the recent activity on your account, too.
"What do people who say that this number is illegitimate have to gain?"Answer - well, if it's a person who makes a living off of credit card fraud, there's quite a lot to gain. Such as tricking thousands of people into believing that they're getting a call from a scammer while you're perpetrating fraud on their accounts. That way, by the time they figure out that the call was legit, you've racked up massive sums of money on their account and you're not liable for a dime of it.Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. If you'd given them that number, they would have told you that it was the callback number provided by Chase fraud to help customers bypass the sometimes terrible wait times on the customer service line.
