Credit card spam. Block all numbers from area code 802 if you can. There are several free call screeners available for your cell phone. One is Mr Number for Droid phones. It allow you to block all numbers from a given area code as well as several other options. Mr. Number keeps a data base of numbers that have been reported as spam and automatically blocks them. .
I'm getting up to 3 calls a day from different numbers of people seeking credit card information (looking to "lower my credit card rate") and when I ask to speak to a manager or to be removed from their list, they hang up immediately
It looks like Roy M Cox and Card Services has moved to Vermont. I called it back, pressed 5, and left my Congressman's and/or Senator's local office's ph#. Maybe that'll generate some heat in getting the FTC to move faster in shutting down Cox's operation.
in these harden times, people are hording their time and minutes, so i believe phone companies are using this spam method to force you to use up your time. i have roll over minutes every month and since this has started in the last 2 years, i have fewer and fewer minutes that roll over. Contact the FCC and file a complaint, the phone company will charge you to block each phone number individually, its a money maker for the phone companies, and since land lines are being made obsolete, and charges and fees are going up, you can bet it will only get worse. Protect you land lines and file a complaint with your congressman and senators, you loose your land lines, you fall mercy to the telephone companies which controll all communications. Ever notice how the bills keep going up and service improves little to none. Think about it. even if they are only less than 30 seconds, you still loose the time.
Second call today. I was called earlier from a different phone number. 617-390-4562. Sick of getting these calls. This time, I pressed 1 and was nice to them to see if I could get them to leave me alone that way. I told them I paid my credit cards off about a year ago. He jerk hung up on me before I could finish my sentence.Looks like I have to file another report on donotcall.gov
I took advice and pressed 5 when I got their voice mail. I entered the other number provided for them 617-390-4562 -- let them have fun calling themselves. Hopefully, this will stop them from calling me, as I'm getting 3-4 calls a day from them.
I got a pre-recorded phone call from 802-230-6357 today at about 10:28 AM PDT. The recording identified herself as "Rachael with Cardholder Services" and told me that there was an urgent matter with my account, but that this urgent matter was not a problem. The only option was to press 1 to be connected to a representative about lowering my interest rate. I pressed one, and the guy who answered asked if I pressed 1 to get a lower rate on my account. I told him that I would like for him to stop calling me and he hung up on me instantly. These people call me every single day, often twice or three times a day. I get more phone calls from them that I get legitimate phone calls. Something has GOT to be done. Blocking phone numbers (or even area codes) doesn't work because they change their numbers and area codes frequently. They also spoof their Caller ID. The Caller ID number usually isn't even a valid number. If I could trace these people I would.
