I received a call from this number, 817-688-7853, at 9:51 am Eastern Time. I was in bed because I sleep all morning long due to having a 3rd shift job. So when I was woken up by this call, I was still very disoriented but I went ahead and answered it since it could be something important.Robocaller tells me something about my Visa card has been deactivated due to security reasons, and to get this taken care of now, I need to press 1. So I press 1, Robocaller starts saying something else and I hang up because at this point I realize it's fraud.I call the 1-800 number on the back of my Chase/Visa card to inform them, but when I got to an operator, she was asking me for my Chase account number and my SS number, and I'm still disoriented so I just hung up on her too. After going back to bed and waking up by 2:30 pm, I do a Google search on this phone number and came across this page. I called the Fort Worth Police Department non-emergency number, 817-335-422, and informed them about the call I received. They told me that I have to call my local police department instead.I call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and tell them the same thing, and told them that Fort Worth told me to call them. The operator told me they usually take care of this over the phone, but since it's a weekend and the person who does this stuff on the phone isn't in, they will send over an officer to my home.Officer came to my home, I told her same story as I told the operator, and she told me that since I didn't give my visa number and I'm not a victim, no crime has been committed. She said they can't get a detective to investigate this or anything until someone actually does give their credit card number, and said the best thing for me to do is just inform as many people as possible about this phone number. So she wrote down the number, but couldn't file a report.
Just got a call from 817-688-7853 but didn't answer because I clicked 800notes first! Thanks everybody! And thanks 800notes!
I got the same phone call....I am in the process of reporting it right now. It is not a working number (the one that shows up on my caller i.d.) but I have people working on this scam.
I was just called on my cell phone from a Robot call informing me to call this number to resolve a security breach on my credit union debit card. Interestingly, I do not belong to a credit union, nor do I have a debit card. This is definitely a scam!!!! Don't fall for it. Ignore it instead.
I just got this call at 12:46 pm, and I didn't answer it because it originates out of Texas, and I don't know anyone in Texas. I googled it because it seemed suspicious, and have now had the pleasure of reading everyone else's complaints about it. Scammers! They need to be caught!
Yeah, I got a call from this number as well. I admit I almost fell for it but lucky for 3 things:1) I was driving2) My wallet was in another pair of shorts, but in the backseat3) I had to drop off my friend and get back to workSo, I'm safe. I also tried to call this # back but same result, "The number you're calling is not a working #, check the # and try your call again." I also checked my online accounts and it all seems fine, it didn't say anything about my cards being canceled. So, turns out it was a phish/scam call and folks, DO NOT FALL FOR IT, USE EXTREME CAUTION AND DISCRETION.
My husband just got a call from 817-688-7853 on his cell phone stating credit union charge card was deactivated, press 1. He pressed 1 but there was no one there. Something has to be done about this stuff.
Received call from this # at 10:30PM. Thanks for confirming my suspicion. FRAUD
