Got a call this morning from this number, "Portfolio Recover". I called them back and then didn't know who I was. I have been having problems with identity theft so I figured I would call them back. The guy claimed I had left an outstanding debt of $1600 on an old Capital One credit card. He claimed the debt had been there since 1999 and wanted me to pay today (a Sunday). After some words I told him I needed to file an Identity theft case since I had never had Capital One account. He kind of backed off then said that the debt now belonged to them and not Capital One and I would have to deal with Portfolio Recovery. So asked for more information about the account which he refused to give out. He then asked me if the last four numbers of my SS# was **** which was not even close to what mine is. He then said he had the wrong number. I have heard of scams where they try to bully you into making a payment for a debt that may not even be yours. I think a debt left over from 1999 is way beyond the statue of limitations for my state. What a mess.
I am so tired of these "debt collector" calls. I do not have a debt, and I have answered their phone calls just to tell them that the person they are asking for is NOT me. I have told them to remove my name from their call list, and I guess they do, but then it starts all over from a different number! This portfolio group calls me several times a day, even on Sunday!
They just called here from from the same number 1-786-586-9557 but the caller ID said from Burlington, KY. So I guess they can use the same number in different states. I dont see how that can be legal to say on the ID that you are someone else justto get you to call back. Isnt that like giving a cop a false name?
We've received calls from Portfolio at this number also, and this is three months after they received a certified cease and desist letter from us stating that they are harassing us since their lawsuit against us was dismissed in court, along with copies of the judge's decision. Now to find an honest lawyer who will take up the case against them. Not easy to find around here. And we're continuing to get calls from Portfolio from a variety of numbers. Don't even answer them any longer as every single person we've talked to insists we still owe them money, and we have to hang up on them as they won't listen to a word we say. Very unprofessional and unethical people.
JUST FILE A COMPLAINT TO HELP F.T.C., INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE THIS UNSCRUPULOUS(SCUM OF THE EARTH) COLLECTORS, AS HARASSMENT BY REPEATED TELEPHONE CALLS IS BREAKING FEDERAL LAWS, GO TO THE WEBSITE: www.ftc.gov OR CALL 1-877-382-4357.DO NOT LET THIS SCUM CONTROL OR INTIMIDATE YOU.
Come on, people. This is a scam. They hope you pick up and become intimidated by their bullying tactics.Legitmate collection agencies do not respond the way these yahoos have come across. The rules are simple. If you do not recognize the number, do not answer the phone. If they have even an ounce of integrity, they will leave a message that isn't automated & generic in nature, requesting a call back. That call back request should include the name of the company, a contact person & a call back number. If you receive that, do your homework. Do an online credit check to see if you have a possible identity theft issue arising. Also look up the calling company on line to see what there status is.Do not feed into the cultures out there.
We are getting calls from those people, mainly on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m.every week. First of all we do not owe any money to no-one. We don't have any past debts that we did not pay in full. I need to know what agency we can contact to report this company, Sometime they use another number 518-312-4713
They wanted payment for a bill from me from 1998..I was born in 2000I did ask if they wanted my 17 year old sister and the guy ask me if she was hot!!Sick scum bags
Portfolio Recovery has bought several thousand dollars of my debt (fools) I will not pay a dime and since I am on permanent SSI/SSD they won't be able to collect however hard they try. They use dozens of different numbers in their lame attempt to recoup their loss. They are easily IDed and ignored yet they keep wasting time and money trying. Maybe they feel if they call hundreds of times with hundreds of numbers they might feel some sort of satisfaction because they will never get any by collecting a cent from me. BWHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAI could just answer the phone and let them off the hook but I would rather people like this keep spending even more money in a wasted attempt. I like it when they go to court and find out they can't touch any of my money. Ka Ching!!!
These guys think it's a game. I guess them paying thousands of $$$ for someones debt is equal to easily ignored and avoided harassing phone calls. The people who avoid your pathetic calls are not gunna pay your scummy souls. You lose, you ended up buying $$$ in debt you were not even involved with and now you get to eat it. The best thing about the 800 notes history of these guys is when I go to court and the judge asks me why I did not respond to them I show them a few pages printed out here and he usually winces and says he understands. Continue your futile harassment campaign after all it's all you can do. I smile knowing you bought my debt and you LOSE!
