After a hiatus of several months of no calls this phony outfit has begun a new campaign of calls. ( Non of which are ever answered at my number). Within the last two weeks they have called on seven occasions at several different times of day - using 5 of their myriad numbers. They'll never learn. They can't collect on debts that don't exist or have passed the statute of limitations. They call the "company" Portfolio Recovery.
When you look up the number on the internet, it is displayed as Federal Supply Co, but when called back, the number is actually Portfolio Recovery, a debt collector trying to collect debts beyond statue of limitations.
A debt collector by the name of Portfolio Recovery, they call from countless numbers, they are trying to collect on past debts.
FYI- these guys are not debt collectors, they are lousy criminals. I have NEVER had a debt go to collections, and I have gotten 3 calls just today from this number- that is not including the following numbers:972-502-9795914-595-7031612-808-8178406-200-6070678-275-8928208-313-8014412-235-6111410-575-1863229-527-0963Simple solution- just don't answer the phone if you don't know the caller. They are not after YOU personally- they are just fishing for gullible people. If they don't leave a message, the are not legit!
Woman Sues Debt Collector, Wins $83 MillionA Missouri jury ordered a debt buyer to pay nearly $83 million to a Kansas City woman it pursued for a $1,000 credit card bill she didn’t owe, NPR affiliate KCUR reports. The jury found Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC guilty of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, for which it will pay $250,000 in damages, as well as maliciously prosecuting the woman, Maria Guadalupe Mejia, over the debt that did not belong to her. For the malicious prosecution, the jury awarded Mejia $82,990,000 in punitive damages.PRA Group Inc., which owns Portfolio Recovery Associates, sent an email statement to Credit.com:“This outlandish verdict defies all common sense,” wrote spokesman Michael McKeon. “We hope and expect the judge will set aside this inappropriate award, and we plan to file motions to make that request formally in the near term. Any fair reading of the facts of this case makes plain that a verdict of this size is not justice by any means, and cannot stand.”Portfolio Recovery, one of the nation’s largest debt buyers, sued Mejia in February 2013 over the credit card debt, though the actual debtor turned out to be a man in Kansas City, Kansas, with a name similar to Mejia’s. The company pursued Mejia for the debt for 15 months after she first received notice of the lawsuit. In a written statement to KCUR, Mejia said, “The lawsuit terrified me.”Fear is a common consumer response to debt collectors, whether the debt is legitimate or not. The first thing consumers should do when they hear from a debt collector is ask the collector to validate the debt in writing — it’s crucial to know your debt collection rights as a consumer, so you don’t end up paying a debt you don’t owe or letting the collection account unnecessarily damage your credit standing. (You can see if a collection account is affecting your credit scores for free on Credit.com.)If you’re unsure of how to approach a debt collection situation, you may want to consult a consumer law attorney, who may review your case for free, to help you understand whether the collector is violating your rights. If the debt is old, it could be past your state’s statute of limitations for collection. You can also consult this state-by-state guide to debt collection statutes of limitation to see where you stand.
New number being used by Portfolio Recovery Associates, Corp HQ', located in Norfork VA. Bad debt collector started using a new set of unlisted numbers 859-56-9557. This number is assigned out of Camden NJ. Unable to confirm any valid business location or being listed as a debt collector in the State of NJ. No not answer or respond to these unverified numbers that this debt collector uses that can not be verified as a valid contact number used by this company. If you need to contact this company use a confirmed, valid contact number associated with the company located in Norfork VA. Company must be hiring private contractor's in different state to act as this company call centers. Than using this unverified number in their auto-dialer calling system to place harassing calls to people. Just a nother area code to block - which doesn't bother me since my phone never rings when they call
Correction to the earlier posting - this number is assigned to Burlington KY and not NJ
I keep getting calls from Portfolio Recovery from a number of phone numbers. This newest one on my cell phone was 859-586-9557 and said Kansas. They haven't never once left a message so you have no idea if they are trying to contact you or someone else.
