Southwestern Bell still exists, it changed its name to AT&T after taking over what was left of AT&T several years after the breakup. What is now AT&T has never abandoned that name.As for the caller, I don't know. But scammers often make up phony claims hoping to trick people who have had debts in the past.

They are calling my distinctive ring fax...I don't owe anyone any money ...don't know who they are and don't care...why they would call a fax is crazy...of course I can't answer.

Called SUNDAY!!! Did not answer. Isn't that illegal? I have never been to collections, or had a bad debt. How do we get rid of these people?

Got a call today. I didn't answer and no message was left. One of Portfoilio Recovery's many numbers. I get calls from them numerous times a week.

Have been receiving calls from Portfolio Recov but no messages left. I have no debt.How many phone #s do they have. I block each one then receive with a different #. At this rate, my blocked calls will be all Portfolio Recov. Currently have phone to block 30 #. May need to purchase phone that blocks 250 #s.

Got a call today on Sunday from a Portfolio Recovery. Left no message on the answering machine, and we have caller ID so if we are not familiar with who is calling we leave the machine to pick up!! Annoying and very frustrating being we are on the Do Not Call List! I would love to call these morons at their home on a weekend, and all hours of the day and night like they continue to call people. Our phone company will start to block these calls.

Reading these stories is so interesting to me. I have only had a land line for about 2 months after about 10 years without one and they got it. The bill isn't even in my name either. It's like psychotic. I have never answered juat cause I didn't know who they were, now that I do I might answer. I havent had a credit card or anything on any kinda credit in over a decade. I know exactly what they are calling for tho now that I have read others stories. Try to follow me.. Basically I need a lawyer. Like 3 years ago at my last job a garnishment magically appeared on my paycheck. I called the owners of my job asking for all the info about the garnishment. GET THIS! It's for a $3000 debt for a Verizon PREPAID phone card. What!?!? How do you get any debt on something that is prepaid? I have documentation from Verizon stating I have never been a client of theirs ever. I have never had or used a prepaid phone card. The whole thing is nuts and makes zero sense. So I kinda wanna answer and see if they can tell me how this debt makes any kinda sense. It's ridiculous.

I have told these jerks that they have the wrong person eight times now and have started to block all of their phone numbers. They call and call and call. They are wasting their time. I'm not the person you are looking for. Take the hint morons and stop wasting my time and yours. This company does not follow debt collection laws. When you've been informed that you have the wrong number eight times, you need to stop calling. I'll keep blocking you. Idiots!!!
