Got the same call at 4ish this afternoon , saw the area code an knew it had to be scammer , have been getting more andf more of these lately , ANYTHING we can do to stop them ?
I answered the phone as I do many times. -------State police how may I help you and click. I'm sick of these hindus wasting my time.
Got a call this morning. Informed the caller I was not allowing any phone solicitations and that I wanted my number removed from their calling list. He tried to tell me he was not soliciting. I repeated my statements. He said, "Listen, just listen..." I repeated my statements. He said, "Yes. We will remove your number. But, listen. Your computer is unsafe." I asked him what company he represented. He said he was not selling anything but only wanted to warn me about my network safety and told me it was very dangerous to do any banking transactions on my network. I told him "I am not interested. Please remove my number from your call lists." He kept repeating, "listen, listen, I just need you to listen..." I was at a drive-thru waiting on breakfast so I just placed the phone on speaker and said nothing more. He kept asking, "Ma'am? Ma'am? Are you there? Ma'am?" Then, he started talking with another guy next to him. He again asked, "Ma'am? Ma'am?" When I still didn't answer, I think I heard some new curse words then he hung up.Overall, good entertainment value if you're bored.
Guy with indian accent called, said that there were issues with my computer. Figured its a scam , but why not push him. Asked him to elaborate and give me more details. He failed to give me any details at all, and he got frustrated and hung up.
Called stating my computer has a virus. Wanted me to go online to their web site. PLEASE REPORT ALL SPAM / PHISHING CALLS TO: www.ftc.gov/complaint
Just got a call from this number. He said he was calling about my computer. I asked him why and he said he wasn't just calling about my computer (?). Then he said my computer had a problem. Strange since he wasn't calling about my computer. Said I don't have time for this and hung up. After reading all the other responses I hope to be more creative next time!
I got The call too. I semi-played along with the guy for about 4-5 minutes, asking him to repeat instructions and then I would make mistakes and ask for instructions again. He finally was sooo frustrated he passed me on to another guy. I did the same routine and then i was passed to another guy. I always would ask, hey this doesnt sounf like "Joe", what happened to "Joe", Is he ok ??? finally the third guy hung up. Now they are calling back today ...
Got a call from this number and dude with accent, reported to police dept, they referred me to state consumer, and they had the feds call me. Tell everyone you know these are scam artists pilfering innocent victims, by freezing their computers, and demanding money.
I got a call from "windows support" yesterday. It was a male caller with decent English, but, an Indian accent. I told the guy that I had a Mac computer, and he said, "OK," and he hung up. About 45 seconds later, the exact same guy called me back and said he was "MAC support." I was like, "Dude, you just called me!" And, he said, "Yes, but, I cam calling from MAC support this time." He told me that they were receiving signals from my COMPUTER that it was being hacked. I was 90 minutes away from home, in the middle of the day, and my PC was not even turned on. I educated him of that fact, to which he replied that it was my IP address that was sending signals. I asked him if it was the carrier cable modem router or if it was the secondary security router that I had, and he seemed a little put off by that. Since he was royally full of excrement, I asked him if he ever attended any of the cybercrimes safety meetings, to which he replied, "I'm with the FBI." At that point, I said, "yea, you scammers sure are "Famous BS Inflicters!" He said, "You don't have to be like that Sexy!" I'm a dude. When the male caller calls you sexy, you know it's not professional ... I told him good try, but, I wasn't buying his story, and I hung up on him.
