Sometimes inmates forget the number and keep calling similar numbers trying to reach a loved one and sometimes they are just lonely and want to talk to someone and dial random numbers, you get the first minute free then they disconnect the call and switch you to a recording telling you how to set up an account so the inmate can call (if you know the person)
I received several calls from this number on my Sprint Cell Phone. The one time I answered the call, the voice on the other end said it was coming from a Kansas State jail!!!
This number is from someone in a correctional facility somewhere in the US. Telmate is the service that various inmates use to call. Could have been from a facility anywhere. For example I received a call from the same number, which uses Telmate. It was from someone in jail in a Northern California Jail. There are several different companies that various facilities use. So, your attempted call may have been from a local jail in Alabama...or a jail or pen somewhere, that is a definite.
It was legit in my case, my son was arrested and was calling from jail, the service was telmate and I've had an account with them previously when he was in jail.
I live in Canada too and wonder the same as Adorkable. I have no idea who would be calling me. My recording was missing the first part too, just started with listing the number options.
I just got this today also. on my caller id it displayed: 1118665160115. with no brackets or anything when displayed on my iphone. Has anyone actually answered the call and talked with an "inmate" or is this some sort of [***] up game?
she's not happy about her son being in jail, she's happy that she received a call from him.... as it is somewhat obvious that this is someone she cares about... J@CK@$$
I let it go to V/M as I don't answer numbers I don't recognize or that refuse caller ID, and the part of the message I got included "to accept this private communication between client and attorney press 2." Yeah, won't be following that up anytime soon.
It is a legit service. My husband is in the county jail in Northern California and we have to use this service so he can call home. Most phone companies do not allow collect calls from detention centers so the jails use third party operators to allow the inmates to make phone calls. It is called telmate, go to pay.intelmate.com and find out about it. It is not a scam.
