There are people saying it is real and others it is fraudulent. I don't know whom to trust until I was blocked trying to access my Chase online: It asked me to contact the number (877-691-8086) to re-activate. This, plus the fact that I did ask for an electronic money transfer last night, I agreed that it is a Chase number and called them to verify the transfer.
Just FYI, while the witch hunters are correct that the number could be spoofed, there are many valid phone numbers for Chase that are not released to the public unless necessary (loss mitigation/fraud,executive CSRs, etc.)You can always call the number on the back of your card, but if the CSR tells you the call was a fake, I would recommend calling back a second time. The last time I tried this, the CSR didn't try anything other than checking if a call had gone out, which as it turns out not all departments record their calls in the same database. Caused a lot of problems and I had to get my card re-issued over nothing.
OK, so there is clearly a lot of confusion about whether or not this is a real number.Personally, I do NOT believe that a bank, even one as lousy as Chase, would call up and ask for any info OTHER than your security questions and maybe a DOB. They're never going to ask for SSN or account numbers.....and if they DO and it actually IS Chase, you should probably take your money to a more secure bank who do not practice such strange and, frankly, sloppy behavior. But the other issue, which I think points MORE to this number being questionable, is the high number of people commenting that this is a real and legitimate number. Why on earth would so many people come to a website that is designed to report phone scams and fraudulent activity simply to post that something is real? Really, think about it....let's say that this is a real Chase phone number and service. You get a call, you give them your information, you have a good experience and your first thought is, "Well, I'd better go to that FRAUD and SCAM website and tell everyone, completely randomly, that this is a real and legitimate number!" It doesn't make sense. They're all protesting way too much. Other scammers have hit up this board under other, well known scam numbers to say how "real" they all are. They are getting better at this as more people cotton on to how many scammers there are out there today.Again, I am NOT saying whether or not this is a legit number and service, but use your brain....it is probably a scam. When in doubt, give them NO info, hang up and call the number on your card or statement or visit your branch. This may be real, but there is certainly enough doubt to be sceptical. Unknown people simply saying, "This is real, I work there, etc..." should not be enough to go against your gut feeling and common sense. Certainly not in this day and age.
I was calling Chase about it number she told it is their number, but when I calling it number, she transfer me the the auto attend that ask for my card number, exp date, and 3 Dig number on back, I was worry about it, so I enter the wrong 3 dig number on there, they were said my information was not correct. then she tell me stop by any chase.Chase May doing right to me, but the way that they doing was make me get more worry. I will stop by the bank when it happen again, it will be the safety way that face to face with the people at the bank, not in the phone.
Guys, seriously. a) don't give anything like passwords/pins or account numbers. no bank would ask for that. b) Fraud prevention department would only ask to verify things on your public record - where u lived, what car you owned, etc. unless you have a secret code (not password) set up previously. c) if you fail to answer correctly, or refuse to answer (what i did after reading a few seemingly concerning comments here), they will simply lock your account online access. if you try to log in it will give you a nice message giving you that SAME number to call back. BUT if you call back after failing they will not reset it. They will advise you to go to the branch with your photo ID. So save yourself time and just head there :)d) not all CHASE customer service reps or bank reps actually know this procedure.Don't be upset - they are trying to protect your hard earned money after all :) just set up a secret passcode (not your password) with your customer service rep for future and sign up for free alerts on anything you think is suspicious - like any online transfers over certain amount, etc. And to the person who asked why would someone who is not a fraudster post here....some of us human beings like to help other people. Useless and rarely reciprocated act, i know, but hey, it feels good :)And to whoever asked why would a person who
Department of Criminal Justice Services, San Antonio, TX. 78265-9729I now have a closed checking account with Chase Bank. I have never been to San Antonio, Texas and this phone number has a bunch of thieves operating a scam business. They are trying to debit customer's corporate accounts by changing routers and shortening account numbers. They cannot give their last names for a reason. I will now report this to the Texas Attorney General's Office and the Richmond, Virginia's Attorney General's Office, as my other accounts that have built home and made the deposits never went to San Antonio, Texas, 78265-9729....I DON"T BANK ONLINE, and DON"T CELL PHONE BANK.
