I keep getting calls from this number, and this is very unnerving, because I have JUST gotten my phone. The callers seem to have heavy accents from middle eastern countries, and they keep asking for someone.I'm pretty sure they just have the wrong number, but it's freaking me out.
i got this call and they told me they were from PSU (payment services). If you have an account with the Credit union, this is not a scam. They are doing their job and protecting your account.
Absolutely legit number/company. They are contracted by many Credit Unions to provide anti-fraud services on credit cards issued through the Credit Union. They contacted me very professional polite and did not ask any questions about account or credit card numbers etc. They simply wanted to verify I had made a purchase (which was legit) they had all the details of the purchase (merchant, store #, exact amount of purchase)...they contacted me within 15 minutes of the purchase! It is a good idea to be skeptical of calls like this but they are easy to check out in this case...they are legit.
It may or may not be legit but if they call on a Sunday and do not leave a message it smells suspicious.
Someone named "Venwalla" called from this number asking me to call them back about a "routine security check" for my Check Card from DEXSTA Federal Credit Union. I called my credit union and they said it was NOT from them. It's alarming how many people are posting on here that this is legit...
I received two calls from the same unknown company advising me that they were performing a routine security check and that I should call 888-918737 and reference case# 2149. I was suspicious as well, so I instead called my local credit union branch and asked for the fraud department. I explained about the phone call - they asked for the card number and asked me to verify my street address (no birthdate, SSN or anything else). While I waited a moment, I logged into my account from my work and then they told me about some fraudulent charges that the credit union had rejected because they were occurring a city/state that i'd never been to; I was able to see one of said transactions and confirmed I'd not been there. They told me they'd freeze my card and I'd have to come in to the branch to get a replacement.I went to the credit union branch and they were aware of my phone conversation and were all set for me to get the replacement card and had arranged to credit the fraudulent charge. If this is a scam, then it's incredibly complex with people running it from inside the banking industry.
They left us a message saying they needed to verify usage. It sounded suspicious so we called our credit union and they verified that this company was hired to check into suspicious usage. In our case we bought something big 3 days in a row with our debit card which is not normal for us. They were just calling to verify that we did make those purchases.
I let them leave a message and they said they were doing a security check on one of my credit cards and identified which bank. I then called the number on the back of that card and they said it is a company working for Visa and legit. They said there were questionable purchases and put me into their fraud department. I would never suggest answering and giving them info but if they are legit they will likely leave a message and you can check with your bank. Saved me $400 in false charges.
