Same scammers keep calling me. Half the time, no one's even on the other end of the line when I pick up.
Just got a call from someone with a heavy accent, asking for a former employee. I asked who was calling and she launched into a bit about the computer, and a bad virus because of internet browsing. She never mentioned Microsoft. I played along with my fake concern and let her go on and on... then I told her that Mrs. So-and So has not worked here for 15 years and so I have to doubt that her computer has a virus. I also mentioned that she was calling a government agency and that I know exactly what she is doing. She asked me why I didn't tell her sooner in the call. I said "Because I know who you are and I know your story. Shame, Shame, Shame on you." She blabbered something about "Oh yes, and I know your story too ma'am." EW.
Answered the call - it was Roger from Microsoft...same MO - "a website I went to caused a virus that needs to be removed..." I said bye Roger.
A caller with a heavy accent ,probably not from inside the United States. Will allege a problem with your computer, then ask that you do certain things.Don't Do It.Hang up and get your computer checked by someone you know and trust.
I remember reading several times over the last year about Fake Windows tech support calls. This number called twice in the last two days claiming they were windows support. They asked for me, which I told them they had the wrong number, they verified the number they called and asked if it was residence or business, and continued to tell me they were calling because they were will windows support. I told them they were not and to not call again.
Said he was Frank from the computer support department. When I asked "of what company?" He just said "you don't remember me?" "No, I don't. What company do you work for?" and then he hung up.
I just got a call from them saying my computer was infected by something that my name brand virus software could not detect. When I asked them how they know this, they said they monitor a server that the virus pings. They presumptuously asked me to go to their website to download the "fix" (aka the real virus?!?). When I told them their news scared me so much that I'm afraid to turn on my computer and asked him to just give me the instructions so I can have my IT friend do it, he promptly hung up.Why do people need to be such a$$h@les!
I just received a phone call from 951-696-7227.Got the same pitch about because of a download that was done on my computer, it was now infected with a virus and I needed their product to remove it.I pushed HARD on them because I am with the USDOJ. The person spoke with a heavy accent but understood English very well. He said he was from Global Technologies in Ohio. I asked him if he was calling from Ohio. He said yes. I asked him his phone number. He gave out (445) 523-6587. 445 is a Pennsylvania area code. Not Ohio. My caller ID said it was coming from California. I asked him for the business address for Global Technologies. At that point his (supervisor) took over. He spoke English with a little less thickness but you still clearly tell he was from another country. I asked who I was speaking to and he said his name was Peter Merchant. I asked him where he was from and he said he was from Ohio. I asked him where in Ohio but her ignored the answer. He kept pushing on the sales pitch. He said I needed to download the microsoft fix to remove the virus. I told him microsoft provides the fixes for free. He came back that microsoft doesn't provide this fix for free.Went back and forth with this guy. He kept saying he didn't understand why I was fighting him when all he was trying to do was help me. He said to just go and check answerdesk.com if I didn't believe him. I asked him why should I purchase it through him instead of just going to the microsoft web site. Then he slipped up. He said he sells for hundreds of companies through Nigeria and he gets the products months before they go on sale to the public. He was just trying to let me purchase the virus fix so I could fix my computer now instead of having to wait for the product to become available in America.I kept asking what was the address of the company in Ohio. He kept ignoring the question. I told him to wait while I checked the website he suggested. While I was typing in the address, he hung up.
