Any number that has been searched here more than 2000 times is certainly a spammer. Blocked.
It is an appt reminder from Social Security. A call back number is part of the message. It would be nice if the number was identified as Social Security, instead of the American Voice I saw.
Today (1/23/2018) I received a call at around 10 AM. The Caller ID showed up as "AMERICAN VOICE 1-972-497-1400". As with any incoming call where I don't recognize the number, I let this call roll thru to voice mail. It appears that this was a robocall, where whatever message was playing it started up as soon as it detected a connection. However, the only portion of the message that made it to my voice mail was the following phone number: " ... 1-800-772-1213". So it would appear that this robocaller was asking me to call Social Security. But I have no idea why.Later in the day I tried calling back to the original Caller ID phone number: 1-972-497-1400. But when I did that all I got is a recorded message that the number has been disconnected or is no longer in service.Since I have NO appointment scheduled with Social Security, it's highly unlikely that this was a legitimate "reminder" call (contrary to what some other posters here have claimed). I believe that this was some kind of scammer. If it truly was a legitimate call from Social Security, then they shouldn't be identifying their Caller ID with some bogus-sounding name like "AMERICAN VOICE". And they shouldn't be calling from a phone number that comes up as a line that has been "disconnected or is no longer in service." If it really was Social Security trying to reach me for some reason, then they're just going to have to have a live person call me, or (alternatively) they can send me a letter in the mail explaining what it is they want.Bottom line: I'm not responding to any unsolicited incoming phone call from a number that's been disconnected; no matter who they claim to be. I've now added this number to my phone's Call Block List. End of story.
Just because this is a legitimate number (a service used by Social Security to remind people of a phone appointment, which I had) doesn't mean scammers can't "spoof" the number so that your caller ID tells you it's this number (972-497-1400) calling. YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR OTHER SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION TO SOMEONE WHO CALLS YOU ON THE PHONE. Call back using a number you know to be correct. (Look it up on the Internet--from a web site you know is trustworthy--if you don't have the number in your records.)
Just got a call from them, no message left. Callback from masked line gets rapid busy signal, indicating they're possibly blocking incoming calls.
Just got another call from them! This time they left a message about Soc. Sec. drug coverage. Callback again from masked line gets rapid busy signal, which smells...
I received a voicemail early today from this same number. My Caller ID listed “American Voice” and the telephone number “1-972-497-1400” The specific message left on my voicemail was: “We are calling to follow up on a letter you should have received recently from Social Security about Extra Help with prescription drug costs. If you think you may qualify, please fill out and return the application mailed with the letter or file online at www.socialsecurity.gov . If you have questions or need help, please call Social Security’s toll free number 1-800-722-1213.” In my case, the message was legitimate. I did receive a letter recently from Social Security regarding Extra Help, and the toll free number they listed in the message is a valid number for Social Security. As others have responded earlier, in a few situations, someone maybe spoofing this number and be utilizing it to scam individuals. However, in my case, the call was legitimate.
It is a scam fron texas and is not from the SS office. Never give you ss number to anyone. I Called police and the SS Dept
I just received a call from this supposed "scam". I do, in fact, have a meeting scheduled with the SSA tomorrow and appreciate getting a reminder call.
