I've gotten this call on my cell twice in the past three days. It's very annoying and I wish all of these STUPID people would get a life and leave us to ours!
I'd never answer a call from 999-999-9999, because I'd be paranoid that receiving a call from any unknown number will give you a big bill. Well, my hubby didn't think anything of it. I was asleep and he was in the phone with them for half an hour or more. He said that They said they were from either Microsoft security essentials or Microsoft windows, he couldn't remember which. They said they were calling about an anti-hacking virus on our computer, needed permission to access our computer to fix it. He allowed them. Not sure what all happened, he didn't tell me, but he said as he was sitting there he started wondering if they were hackers. He hung up the phone, disconnected the modem and turned off the computer. Called the bank, cancelled our credit cards, because we've used them online before. The thing is, there has been an anti-hacking program, not even sure when it was installed, I think it's a virus. Our home phone and Internet connection is under the same account. I'm wondering if this anti-hacking program tracked us, got our number, and tried to do who knows what when allowed access to our computer. I'm hoping it really wasn't a hacker, but I'm pretty sure it was. If it were an employee, they don't usually call, right? Usually the website provides a number for us to call if we need assistance. Ugh! Of all times. My hubby was suppose to be at work, and I was sleeping in. I was like, cone on, seriously!! You accept weird numbered calls??! But oh well, well just have to call our phone company, ask them about this 999 number, figure out this virus, pray this call didn't drain our bank account.
I comes up as restricted on the phone.... and 999-999-9999 on the bill. I think you are right... it is a call that has been caller ID blocked on the caller end.
I've been getting the exact same calls from the same numbers. They called at 1 AM. tonight. It has been going on for months.
Received 2 calls from 999-999-9999 within 2 hours. The second call I answered and the girl asked for me by name, said her name was Katie and that she was calling long distance and could I hear her OK? She said she was calling from some $100,000 contest or give away. I asked her to please stop calling me because my number is on the do not call list, and she hung up on me! Real mature!
Have received 4 of them, so far, always at 11:30 AM. I don't answer because the number is not in my phone list. I'm with Cingular (AT&T).
Got a call from the 999-999-9999 number during the day time. they left no message. I do not have Blockbuster, so, would assume it is some other type of phone scam. I did not pick up, as any one calling from that number is phony!!
