THIS IS PHISHING, THEY TELL EVERYONE THEY'RE A DIFFERENT COMPANY [So far, Citi, Sears, Home Depot, Best Buy]. They try to get your 9-digit SS#, no legit operation does that. THIS IS PHISHING, and all the comments here that say they're legit are either dupes or, more likely, the crooks themselves. Awful.
If you get a call from this # Better check your credit report!!! Got call 9/3 didn't answer, got letter today from them. Said someone opened an acct with them. I got online and got Citi #'s, and called. The letter we received had last four digits of a credit card that was issued, so I gave those #'s and our zip code as requested. They didn't coincide. Put on phone with a person and she asked for info and then told us that someone had compromised my husbands credit. gave us an address with a street name, city, and State. The area code and last 4#'s of phone used for acct. and an e-mail address. None of which belongs to us. My husband informed her it was not him. she put fraud alert on acct. Then I got online with Equifax and requested credit report. Someone had applied for a credit card using my husband's stats but changed address, phone # and e-mail address. I immediately filed a dispute with them, and A police report With copies I printed from Credit report showing the changes. Also put fraud alert on my husbands files and that will go to all 3 credit reporting agencies.
I got call from 210-677-1346, saying, that he is from Citi bank and asking straight away to verify my date of birth. I hanged up. It was obvious scam.
Check your credit report!!! someone opened an acct with my husbands name and info but changed address phone number and e-mail address. Citi contacted us by phone and letter. I didn't trust either one so I went online and got Citi #'s and called them. Then I went online to Equifax and sure enough someone had gotten a new card in his name and changed address to the one Citi had told me. Please don't wait. he put a fraud alert on his acct.
Didn't answer and went to voicemail. It was legit from Citi Card Fraud telling me there was an embossing issue with my recent card and that they were sending new ones. I called the regular Citi Card # on my card and they confirmed the call was legit and new cards were being sent.
Looks like similar case to me, now going through all the identity fraud steps. How did your case go?
Just to verify. I called into Citi Bank and this is indeed a valid number for them! BUT be aware this, the number CAN BE SPOOFED, with today'a technology. Simply put the scammers can fake what is shown on you Caller ID. So do what I did. Don't answer the call or if you do. Hang up and then call up Citibank yourself to verify. I did and thats how I knew there was NO fraudulent activity.
