It's legit! I called Bank of America Customer Service and they said there was a fraud alert - someone else was using my card and there were suspicious charges (indeed it was not me!). They put a hold on my account and are sending me a new card. I'm glad I did as the voicemail left by this number 302-731-1166, did not give me any clue as to what it was about until I googled the phone numberGlad I called!!
this was a fraud protection call from bank of america. the message directed me to www.myfraudprotection.com, which i was suspicious of. so i called the bank from the number on their website (not the one given in the message) and they said the call and the site were legit. i'd still prefer to deal directly with the bank.
This number is from Bank of America's Fraud Department. Call the number on the back of your card and ask to speak to their Fraud Department.Bank of America can easily clear this up if their automated system would simply say, "Hello, this is Bank of America calling. We have a concern regarding your Bank of America credit card. Please call us as soon as possible at the 1-800 number on the back of your card and enter the option to speak to a representative. Thank you."It's that simple. To end this message, press 9. ;-P
I recieved a call from this number twice last night and missed it i looked it up and noticed it was a number out of Newark Deleware. I recieved another call from it today and I answered it was a recorded message from Bank of America Fraud Department, saying I had I tune charges that looked Fraudulent. I hung up logged onto the BOA website and noticed my card was charged 5 times, 1 time for 268 dollars and 3 times for 1 there was also another charge for 1 for USA Today or something. I called up BOA customer service number where they asked me if I paid my phone bill with this card and they then cancelled the card and said they will credit me back and reissue me a card.
This is in fact BofA fraud dept, confirmed it myself. They did a great job in protecting me!
PLEASE READ!As incredible as it sounds, BOTH of these different points of view can be correct. The REAL number truly IS part of BoA's Fraud Protection. I have a BoA card, and I have benefited from this automated alert. However, with current technology, ANYONE can spoof ANY PHONE NUMBER on your Caller ID display. Which means that the scammers, once THEY learn what the BoA Fraud Protection number is, spoof that number on Caller ID in hopes you will recognize it and give them information. What should you do? If the call is an automated voice, it's probably legit. No one will ask you to do anything, other than contacting BoA via their website or by calling the number on your card to verify the activity in question. If it's a live voice - do I really have to finish that sentence? The point is, you should independently verify everything. Fox Mulder was right: Trust No One.
Yes it is. It is the fraud department calling to let you know some strange charges have been made on your card. You will need the 800# on the back of you credit card to call them back, or use their website.
Received call from this number and since I didn't recognize it, I checked this site to see if it was a solicitation site...I found the comment on B of A 'fraud' and checked online to find the same 'fraud alert'...since I use their 'safe card' only...the fraudulent charges were removed. However, the card was canceled and a new one will be issued. I appreciate this site...it may have been several days before I got to my account to notice. So..THANKS!
This turned out to really be B of A in my case. The robot advised me to press 2 if I hadn't purchased anything from "Avenues India" and I was routed to a live person who did have the last 4 digits of my card before I gave it to him, he saw that I had a NetFlix charge coming up tomorrow (something no one would have known unless they were looking at my actual charge history). Only info I was asked to provide was my billing zip code.Turned out that indeed, B of A fraud had correctly tagged this $134.14 charge in India (!) as being a fraud and they cancelled my card on the spot.It could be that someone is spoofing the B of A REAL number to "cash in" on this number, but in today's instance it was real and a good thing.
This number tried to call me all day at work, I got home and saw an email from bank of america saying they were suspicious of recent charges. I was suspicious of both, but I logged into my online banking and sure enough there was an alert placed on my account and I had to do an online verification of charges. Luckily none of the charges were made by anyone else, but I did make several online purchases last night that I suppose triggered some type of alert. For all the things I don't like about BOA I do appreciate their security features. I don't know why so many people have a vendetta and try to say this is fraud related. Get a job so you don't have time to spend all day accusing honest people trying to provide accurate information of being shills.
