This number is on bankofamerica.com as one of their international contact numbers SO it's legit. I contacted the number on the back of the card and the msg they left was right. :( Can't even buy a damn sandwich anymore without almost getting ripped off!
I received a call from this number, but instead of returning the call to that number, I contacted my local BofA branch. Actually I was too late to speak to my personal banker, so I called the customer service number 800-432-1000 and they did indeed confirm that there was a hold placed on my card. I explained that this was impossible, as I was looking at my account online and nothing seemed amiss. They insisted that there was a possible compromise problem and they were going to disable my card. I demanded a supervisor and got one. She explained that they receive warnings from financial institutions, retailers, and law enforcement and that although it didn't appear there was any suspicious activity on my account *yet* there was a possible compromise in the works. (Probably if I had responded to the phone call I got from this number that rang once and went to my voicemail.) So they are issuing me a new card and rushing it to me by Saturday (It's late Thursday afternoon here so it's a rush job and they're waiving the $20 fee since this wasn't anything I did) and I'll still be able to use my old card for a week or so. The phone number is a scam, but it alerts you to a very real situation. Call your bank directly with the number YOU have, not the one some voicemail gives you.
This DOES happen to be a legitimate number. I just received a call from BofA from this number confirming that my debit card had recently been replaced and a reminder to activate it, which was accurate and legitimate. So yes, Char and I can both read, and you should be a tad bit more mature in your responses on a website that is here to help us. Go troll elsewhere.
I received 2 calls. The second time they left a message to call 866-242-6289 and gave me a six digit code to reference. Its BofA security dept calling to verify unusual transactions on an ATM card. I spoke with a BoA rep and verified the transactions. This 315 number was legit for me.
This is legit. At least it was for me. There apparently is a lot of people angry at B of A on this page. Regardless, the smart thing to do is call the Bank directly and talk to them there. You should NEVER give any info to ANYONE that calls you up from a number you don't recognize, even if you are positive they are legit. Get the information and then initiate the call yourself, using a phone number that you know to be the institution requesting the information, not the number that called you or that was given to you. Simple way to avoid big problems.
It isn't a SCAM! It's the automated system from B of A's ATM/Debit Customer Protection Department. They are calling because unusual/irregular activity has been detected on the card. The number is actually on the back of the card as well, but it says call collect. Once transactions are verified as legit the temp hold will be removed and you'll be able to use your card as normal.
I received a call that my debit card was compromised and has to be replaced '''Bank of America'" The call did not have the correct name in the greeting. Smells like a scam.....
The ATM/Debit Customer Protection department is open 24/7/365. 877.833.5617 is the direct number to the department. Once you receive a call, txt msg, or email alert it means the temporary hold has already been placed on the card, it isn't placed if you don't answer.
To all those above that think this number is real; MAY GOD BLESS YOU & keep your funds safe as I doubt it is BOA. My elderly MOM has NO accounts with BOA, much less a debit card or any account that could have fraudulent activity on. I took over all her accounts a few years ago after she had been scammed & swindled by to many - - including somehow her social security check. I know where her bank accounts are & who she has a credit card with as I paid the bills; BOA is NOT among them! I spent many long hours tracking down the scammers & got MOM back many thousands of dollars; if you believe this number to be real, good luck on the many hours you will spend after they try to wipe you out in small increments, only to get larger on each monthly statement. AMEN!
