I received a new Bank of America debit card in the mail yesterday and received this call today stating I would be receiving a new card because my old one was compromised. They didn't say anything other than to follow the instructions on the card and to call the customer service number listed on the card for BOA if I had any questions. You can call BOA to confirm there was a massive breach on several banks (do you not watch the news or read a paper?) and new cards were issued from all banks. Most people received several transactions from abroad. Listen to the actual recording before you freak out and scream fraud, they don't tell you to email or call anyone back at all. It's just a recording stating they will be sending a new card in the mail. Call and confirm with BOA if you are skeptical.
I received a call from 315-724-4022 and did not recognize it. Right after that I received a txt message from "27590: FREE TEXT MSG alert-Bank of America has temporarily limited the use of your CheckCard due to unusual activity. Please call 1-866-549-9195 To Opt Out reply STOP" Since my alerts are set to go to my email, I knew something was not right. I immediately checked my account online. No unusual activity. I then contacted BOA via their chatline. They stated that NO message alert was sent to me and that the phone numbers were not theirs. These were scams. Do not give out any information and report to the fraud division.
legit call. called to report suspicious account activity. telephone number 315-724-4022 is posted on the back of BOA visa check card
The number is REAL, not a scam. Bank of America called me this morning to report that a database had been compromised. I didn't have to give them my SS# to verify my card; they just read back transaction to me from the last few days to verify that they were my charges. I'm not sure why so many people above are crying "scam!" Yes, it is possible to spoof incoming numbers, but that doesn't change the fact that this number is real, and if you call it, you are going to reach Bank of America. More importantly: If this were a scam, then this scam has been running for FOUR years!! The earliest posts on this number are from 2008. Does that sound likely?
Got a call from 315-724-4022 and they left a message claiming my atm card had been compromised. They wanted me to call them back, but instead I contacted my bank , gave them that number, they called and came back (I was on hold) and told me it is a scam and that my account and card are fine.
appears to be legit, made a purchase in canada, and was prompted to be sure it was a legit charge,,,
I usually do not comment here but I feel like I must to clear the air. I received the same automated phone call twice with a message pertaining to how my debit card was authorized for international use, something along those lines. Towards the end of the automated message, they listed a number that I could call (saying that it was BofA's fraud department for checking accounts. I looked that number up and it was indeed from BofA. In fact, that number is on the back of your debit card (look at the area 'From Outside the US call collect at 315.724.4022). I called the number and it was all prompts and then it basically asked me to enter my debit card number. At this point I decided to hang up and call the customer service number instead (1.800.688.6086). After being transferred three times, I finally ended at the same exact place as the number that I called all the way in the beginning, with the same prompts for my debit card number and so forth. I was finally connected to a live operator, I explained the situation, and she looked up my information. Turns out it was an error on their side and she changed my account to "Not being used internationally' or something like that. Basically, I just want to let those people who are still unsure know my experiences with this number. People need to stop calling each other shills, retards, or 'you're probably one of the scammers!'. Please, lets not be immature. Sure, these numbers can be spoofed and your experiences may differ but basically just be smart and cautious with everything. Call BofA directly and be transferred by them to the right department to be extra safe. This number was NOT a scammer and the information they provided suggested otherwise. I was never asked for my address or SSN or anything else that did not pertain to my BofA debit card.
It is legitimate from Bank of America. Bottom line. Do a little research, people. It's on the Bank of America website. I had withdrawn several hundred dollars from the ATM last night and was immediately sent an email notifying me of the activity. Then, received the phone call this morning. I agree that you should not return the call using your Caller ID, but rather call the Bank of America main number. I called the main number and they lifted the hold on the card. It is a legitimate service that could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars if true fraudulent activity is found. Wake up.
I received a call at 8:30 Easter morning (which I thought was weird in and of itself)...I didn't give any information, opting to speak with someone. I was put on hold for several minutes before I hung up. I don't know whether it's a scam or not, but I wouldn't be giving my social security number to anyone who calls me!
