If you are expecting a call from Ebay, press 1. If you are expecting a call from Ebay, press 1. Keeps repeating this. Screw off!
I just called Ebay's 800 #, and the person there was not aware of any reason I should have gotten a call from the 408-376-7400 number at 12:20 AM. They said they would escalate the problem. At the very least, if it is a legitimate auto-dialer, then it should be programmed to only call during normal waking hours.
At 12:07 AM, I received a call from this number. An automated voice said, "This is E-Bay. If you are expecting this call, press 3." I hung up.
Called me 6 times (SIX TIMES) from 1:50am - 1:54am ET. I never answered, and they never left a message, just back to back to back to back to back to back to back calls. I haven't used eBay in about 5 years, so it certainly wasn't a legitimate account verification call.
The consensus is that this is a legitimate number from eBay. BUT if you weren't expecting it, DO NOT ANSWER or hang up immediately. Someone (if not you, then likely a scammer) put down your phone number as theirs when eBay asked for it.
Received a call at 5:45 am same message as everyone else. But, my cell phone is new (only 30 days old), i never registered it with Ebay. i logged on to Ebay to verify that my number was not listed.
This has been going on a long time, it appears. I got a call from this number, but I was not there to answer.I googled the number, it was a legitimate Ebay number, but they had no record of any reason why they would call. I had already called and got an answering machine saying it was a guy named Eric, and he was not in. Seems it is an Ebay number, but spoofed. I don't know who Eric is, Ebay does not know who Ebay is, but he sounded stoned and may have hijacked the number.Do not call Eric.
Although I can appreciate the aggravation people experience when these calls come in the middle of the night, I would think that most people would be responsible and conclude that a once or twice inconvenience is better than:A: Having your phone number associated with a fraudulent account on eBayB: Having your phone number mistakenly associated with a seller account who may have no credibility.C: Having your existing eBay account granted access to a criminal who will then have access to much of your personal information.Any of these, regardless of the time of day or night, are far worse (in my opinion) than a ONE TIME middle of the night wake up call.Additionally, a lot of people on here are talking about the "no call list" and "unsolicited" calls. From my point of view, you are doing it for the sake of complaining about something. These calls are not for the purpose of selling you something. They are for the purpose of protecting YOUR phone number from being used by criminals. Instead of complaining about it, you should be saying, "Thank you, eBay, for keeping my phone number safe."Furthermore, why does reason go out the door with suggestions like ".. it should be programmed to only call during normal waking hours"? eBay does not know when you are sleeping and everyone does not sleep the same hours as you. Because the overwhelming number of uses of their automated system are from real customers, why would they limit them to only be able to recover information or interact with eBay when it's conveniently day time? Those of you that suggested they only call during certain hours have unrealistic and idiotic expectations. Do you really think it makes sense for them to say, "You can get help recovering your password when everyone is out of bed."Again, you should be thanking them for looking out for YOU even if you are not an eBay user.Yes, this number is an automated feature of eBay. I got the call today. The most likely reason is that someone was trying to hack into my eBay account. So for that, Thank you eBay for keeping my account safe.
