I had a bussiness which failed (went bankrupt)so I have had to deal with a number of organizations who wanted to collect money for leases etc. It took months to resolve the issues with the compainies involved. Today I recieved multipal phone calls from Gus Perez of McCarthy, Burges & Wolfe (MBW). He was rude, arrogant, insulting, treating and refused to listen. WITHOUT QUESTION THIS WAS THE MOST OBNOXIOUS AND UNREASONABLE CALLER OF ANY COLLECTION COMPANY OR DEPARTMENT THAT I HAVE HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO DEAL WITH.(The lease that he called about was resolved six months ago after numerious letters and phone calls to various departments of a major copy machine corp.)
I recommend you call them and make sure there is not a valid debt. These companies do not waste money on phone calls to people whe do not owe.
The real question is what kind of resources do they have to track people down. They have been calling regarding a debt for a free trial offer of a product I verbally signed up for after a cold call (d'oh!). I had just moved and may not have given them the right address, but they obviously had the correct phone number. That's about the only info they have on me, a nickname with correct last name, an address (but probably the wrong street name), and my cell number. I eventually did discover that this company had created a directory listing for me, complete with all sorts of information they made up that I was never given the chance to verify. They want payment for that ad now, and still haven't taken it down despite having turned my account to collections. I can ignore the calls for eternity, but it would be a problem if they figured out my real name and address. The original company is since bankrupt and now I have these [***] calling me a few times a day threatening some kind of liability investigation.
Lots of times it feels as though the situation is much more hostile than it actually is when you are on the defensive due to the debt. Try to recall how you entered the phone conversation and i would recommend trying to call the person back seeking a better outcome.
Caller claimed to be from an attorney's office, and needed me to call them about an important matter. It was a recorded message, which really put up a red flag. I went to this site and found it was a collection agency, that is also connected with telemarketing. There is not any reason for a collection agency to be contacting me. I wonder if it is a sales call, or if they can use my phone to make bogus charges on it. The company name they said sounded familiar to the name listed here.
Try not to mix your personal affaris with your business dealing. When addressing your debts you should not factor in your loss of your child. Ministers and therapists are better suited to administer compassion and sympathy. Perhaps your naivety is setting you up for the emotional distress.
