I did the same thing as this person. I got two calls on different days and from different numbers. This is totally bogus.
I polielt answered the phone 3 times over the course of 2 months - told the people I would not answer any questions and asked to have my number removed. Person said that they could only do it after the third call. I figured I had it made. One week later calls started again and after several voice mails I picked up the next attempt and figured I was polite enough and it was my turn for fun. (Please do not take offense at this, anyone)- but I made believe that I was just discharged from a mental hospital after 15 years. I answered the questions like a looney---they asked how many bathrooms and I told them I had two in my car- front seat and back seat. Questions went like that and they finally hung up. Hopefully forever.
Have been getting these calls for months, so I sent in the American Community Survey with only minimal information (very intrusive). Calls stopped for about 2 weeks, then started again. They also call from 333-333-3333, 580-540-6548, 405-563-0734. One or the other calls every day. I think I'll try a few of the tactics I've read above. This is so bad, but if I report it to the FCC (which is run by the government) by a very liberal person who wants to do away with talk radio, unless it is a liberal talk radio. I've never had anything like this happen to me. Only since this new admin came into office. I really have to wonder about their agenda for America and our freedoms given us by our founding fathers.
I had the same phone call.{520-798-4152)I didn't answer.I screened it.{out of state area code}From what I'm hearing,I'll ignore it.
Well..........I got their "Family" survey in the mail last year.........TWICE. I threw them away. Too invasive. Wayyyyy too invasive. Their phone call followup program started last month. I don't answer. Looking for the 'in person' visits to commence soon. That's when there's going to be trouble. When they violate my 'no trespassing' signs and I call the sheriff's office to have them arrested, I'm going to press charges. The Federal Government has my name, address, social security number and fingerprint record from working for the United States Postal Service and registering as a licensed concealed handgun permit holder. Beyond that, I choose not to answer what hair shampoo I use or if I squeeze the Charmin or not. It's my right not to answer to folks I feel are up to no good regardless of if they work as a shadow Census Bureau agency or not. Fugg'em and feed 'em fish heads! Listen up jarheads. I JUST SAID "NO". GOT IT? GOOD.
they calling every evening saying from census bureau they want do survey by phone?? i don't belive they from census..
Got called from 520-798-4152 back in early july of 2009. At first thought the call might be legit because I had received post cards in the mail announcing census survey papers would be arriving. Didn't mind confirming information they already had and the innocuous questions until the person asked for my social security number. I refused. That stopped me cold. I told the caller I was done with them. I don't think the REAL Census Bureau needs THAT kind or personal information. When I did a reverse number check it appeared as though the call had come from an Arizona based Census office, but why would their Arizona office be calling a great lakes state? I have since been told by a local police detective that scammers can electronically make it appear on caller I.D. that another number is the callers, including government agencies and legitimate businesses. It's called 'Spoofing' a number he told me.The information the REAL census takers collect is kept confidential, and is a legitimate tool of our governments to best know who in our country needs what services, but calls from this number seem to be very suspicious.
Got a call from the Maryland (240-776-3120) office yesterday (1/22/10) at 9:15PM. Didn't answer. Got a call today @ 3:45 from this number. Arizona appeared on the phone. Answered. Took a short survey. Asked about different types of products and where they were purchased. Nothing personal at all. Said it was voluntary so I don't know where some of the posts are presenting info on being threatened. I looked up the number and it is legit. If info asked for was personal, I would have stopped the survey and hung up. Said that I would receive three more calls over the next few months. Let you know what type of info asked for and any other details.
I am located in Texas and received repeated phone calls from this number also. I called the Regional Census Bureau in Dallas, Texas. After a bit of a run-around I was connected to the data department. This number is NOT a number associated with the Census Bureau in the Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas region which is covered by the offices in Dallas. The 520-798-4152 number does NOT appear to be a legitimate number from the Census Bureau.
