Caller ID said "name unavailable" like many telemarketers so I did not take the call. I found the following transcribed message from Vonage in my email inbox: "There does not allow collect calls or you have reached your collect call limit on calls from lost Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Elliot Jail. If you would like to accept this and future collect calls you must establish a prepay account. We accept Visa and MasterCard. If you would like to set up an account and accept this call please press four. For pre-pay account inquiries contact billing and customer service at 8662307761. To refuse this call hang up."
Funny....my recording says it's the Gregg County Jail in Longview, TX. It's a scam people. I received this call 3 times in less than a minute on Sunday, then today received another call from a totally different number with the exact same recording. If they are in jail, let them call someone else.
Caller ID came up as Houston TX. Recorded message was truncated at several points. Phrases included "your payment options" and which buttons to push for options. Caller's name was muffled and could not be identified."operator" (?) said the call was from an inmate at the North county Correctional FacilityReceived 3 calls within one hour; all went to voice mail. Voice messages were left. None of these calls was returned.
I received 2 calls from this number (id: Houston, TX). Automated voice stating there was an inmate in the LA County women's correctional facility and to prepay the calls they need my cc number. I have a daughter who lives in LA. The second call it sounded like it stated her first name, in which her name sounded like her voice, but I still didn't give cc info. I googled the number instead and found out about all these people who have been scammed. I am currently trying to lookup inmate information in the area where she lives. Nothing is coming up yet but it can take a few hours. Her cell phone is off. Goes straight to a full vm box so I can't leave a message. No returned text from her. Ironically she did not show up to pick up her daughter from the babysitters and a friend called letting me know the babysitter was going to drop my granddaughter off with them since she had to go to school. Still am unable to find out inmate info. Very scary but seems to maybe be accurate. If I get a 3rd call I will accept. I can always cancel what card I use right away if it's not legit. Chances are this is a real number but some prisoners are using it to scam others.
I got 15 calls today on my house phone recording machine, from a jail the number was 713-981-0098
I just got a collect call from t his number. The man's voice was unclear on the name. I don't take collect calls from people I don't know. Where is this guy getting the numbers he calls???
