Received a call from this number stating that it was regarding an emergency with an inmate in L.A. County Jail that listed me as an emergency contact. Spoke with a man that identified himself as Lt. Brown/Michael Brown with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. He stated to call *72 562-607-0097 to receive more information and provided a bogus jail booking number.A short time later, the man called again with the same information.*72 is a forwarding service that sets your calls to be forwarded to the number you provide. Presumably, the intent was to have me unwittingly forward all of my calls to the 562 area code phone number. The 713 area code number is from Southeastern Texas, which clearly is not related to Los Angeles County. The 562 area code number is an L.A. County area code cell phone number, which forwards to a voice mail that has not been set up.Return calls to the 713 area code number are met with a busy signal. I believe the reason for the second call was to ascertain if I did, in fact, set up the call forwarding.If you inadvertantly dialed *72, this can be easily reversed by dialing *73 from the phone you dialed.

I got more calls from this number early this morning. 713-981-0098. I don't know anybody in jail or prison. Sorry go try your scam somewhere else.

Guess this scam number is active again. Have been getting calls on my cell for past three days. They call 3 times a day. Same message left on my cell as others have reported about a collect call from somewhere (in my case from a Denver detention center). I recognize the caller's area code as Texas and not Colorado, so scammers are clever to name a city in the state which the phone number being called is located. What don't they use their meager brains to get a legal job?

Received a call from 713 981 0098 saying it was a collect call from Lucas County Correction Center, even using my brothers name. They called three times but I didn't accept the call as I know it's a scam.

Just got a call from this number too asking to accept a collect call and the recorded name was "family emergency" BUT since no one out of our family or friends has our home phone number we knew immediately it was a scam... WTH! Why would someone do a false collect call?! >.> lol

Sorry its a scam. I do not know anyone in Texas so why call my number.

If you know someone in jail and are expecting their call, then of course it's not a scam. If you're not expecting their call then BE FOREWARNED it could very well be a scam.

We have recieved the same type of calls the past several days from Global Tel Link - # 713 981 0098. When returned calls we got either a 'busy signal' or continual ring. CRAZY SCAM!! Beware!
