Has anyone noticed the huge increase of "Toll Free" 800, 877, 866, 888 -or- area code and then "unknown caller" calls - all from unwanted telemarketers offering misc. incl. Allstate, vultures offering loans, attorney groups offering assistance with "bankruptcy", etc. etc. Ever since almost all of us registered on the "Do Not Call Registry" - they have found a way to BUY our phone numbers from services we once used and had an existing business relationship with and now they can slither their way around the do not call registry and "legally" call us. Leave it to the telemarketing companies to come up with a way to beat the system which once threatened their existence as they are now once again thriving and legally pestering us at all times - and YES, again mostly at dinner time!!!
I have a business line. Thank GOD I work from home... sooo i can do this. They call me nearly on a daily basis, I hit 2 to discontinue further notices.. (of course we all know that doesnt work). What i would suggest is to press 1 (to continue the call). And BULL [***] your way thru. WASTE their time, as they are wasting yours. You do this long enough, they get real [***]... and what a joy I get out of that. I just laugh in their ears, and say, how does it feel to have your time waisted. They end up hanging up of course. (Better then doing a blow horn in their ear like i used to do). Also let them listen to the same TV show after clicking 1. or even let them listen to me drawing a bath. Oh... they get annoyed. OR, you can continue to press 2.. Also you can contact the FTC (Federal Trades Commision) as this is a sales call. Best of luck
Elsa, probably some truth to what you are saying. But I also think a bigger reason why these types of call have increased so much lately is because of the availability of and advancement in autodialer technology that either incorporate the DNC numbers into its calling lists or just ignores the DNC list altogether and calls every possible phone number combination in the country, repeatedly, and is capable of placing thousands of calls per minute and passing the ones that are answered to a telemarketer boiler room where the scam starts. American Debt Negotiators, the leader of the so-called "Heather With Account Services" credit card scam that has been in business untouched by the authorities for a couple of years now uses equipment sold by Touchstar - www.touchstar.com - a web site where one of ADN's exec brags how the Touchstar equipment has increased the number of calls he makes (and the profit he generates for ADN's owner, Mr Ran David Barnea)
i just got a call from this number, googled it and found these posts. it's 1:40 central time, they didn't leave a message. i'm not calling it back.
My calls have stopped COMPLETELY. I haven't received one phone call since May 2...I still say this has to do with not answering...the automatic dialer will eventually drop the number once it tracks that no one's answered after repeated attempts.
I keep getting voice mails with a woman voice saying "it is urgent that you call us for elegibility to lower your interest rates". It used to be 305-595-9680 with unidentified name and I just received the same stupi message from 772-664-4005 with the name "SEBASTIAN, FL". I wish I could block those numbers from calling me. I have already registered my number in the Do Not Call registry, which just seems to be a joke.
I got a call from this number and a woman told me that I was overdue for a chimney cleaning and they were calling all of their previous customers because they were in the area and charging half price. Funny thing is she called me by a last name that I recently changed to and if I actually had been a previous customer it would have been under a different name. I told her no thank you and that I was not a previous customer and she very rudely hung up on me. This call had to be some kind of scam.
Got a call from this number today, 2:45 PM EST. I didn't recognize the number so I didn't pick it up. No message.
I've been getting these scam calls phishing for credit card information for a year despite filing complaints with the FL Attorney General the FCC and the FTC. Because they rotate different spoofed numbers it's very hard to stop them. I've been getting the "Heather from Account Services" calls from a half dozen fake numbers. For what it's worth I actually had a good experience with Verizon. They put a third party charges block on my acct. and offered to change my number and recorded the harassment complaint though they can't block the calls because these scammers rotate different phone numbers. Verizon is aware of scammers cramming third party charges on to bills and harasing people. Though they can't do much about it they were at least sympathetic. I'm still glad I filed the FCC and FTC complaints because these scammers are basically preying on elderly people and people with credit card debt who are desperate. I'd encourage people to file the complaints even if they switch their phone numbers in the end to get the calls to stop. And put a third party charges block on your phone because these people have been charging unauthorized services on people's phone bills.
