The number was confirmed to be bogus by Chase Bank. After receiving fake calls from this number, I contacted the bank and they told me they had not tried to call me, and that this was not their number. The posting above looks like it's from the scammer itself.
Same story as others with this call. I verified with CHASE by calling the # on my CC. This is NOT a legitimate call from Chase, so do not call back the number in the message. Also, the "Joe Smith" posting that the call is from Chase, is as fake as his name. Hardly creative.
Got a voice-mail on my cellphone indicating to call this number with a code.I immediately assumed it was fraud and googled the number to see what came up.The results seemed to indicate a mixture of fraud and legit. So, I left a secure message via online banking to Chase. They responded within about 10 minutes that it was not a contact from Chase...please see the reference for fraud prevention below...yada, yada, yada. But Wait....I decided to call the number anyway to see what kind of information they asked for. I figured if they asked for anything that I wasn't comfortable giving out I would just hang up.Here's what happened...(all from an automated system; no human interaction)Called number, entered code from voice-mail. I was asked two multiple choice questions about information which is readily available on my credit report (which could easily be pulled using a random SS number.) I answered the questions with the correct answers. After a few moments of, 'hold while we retrieve your account information' I was asked if I had initiated an electronic transfer. The question included a specific amount in conjunction with a specific date of initiation and delivery. There is no way anyone other then Chase had that information. So, it turns out that it was completely legit....now I'm off trying to figure out why the Chase Online Banking Secure Message Service idiot said that it was Chase who called...
I spoke with my banker after getting a call from this and he couldn't find the number in the Chase system and there were no alerts on my account posted. Then 15 minutes after just talking with a real Chase banker, I got another call from the number- so I put it on my blocked list.
Clearly they have some automated script trying to obtain the answers they need to pull your credit report. Go to Equifax, Experian or Transunion and try to pull your own credit report. It will ask you the same kind of questions this robo caller is asking. You cant answer, no credit report. You answer, you get your credit report. You are scammer? Have robo caller call and get chump victim to answer the questions on the phone so they can pull your credit report. Once they have your credit report they can "transfer you to an operator" have a real person scammer reading you the information off the report to prove how "authentic" they are. This scam is ruthless and I bet plenty of people answer those verification questions and thus give up their credit report to a criminal.
Confirmed this is not associated with Chase. So advise to those who claims it is ligit. Do some more fine tuning.
Yes, it's a scam! I called Chase Services at 1800-432-3117 (go to Chase.com and look up how to report fraud) and spoke to a really nice customer service person who looked up that number and found no listing. She also looked on my account as Fraud Prevention would notate the account if they actually called, and there were no notes. Everything was clear, so yes, THIS IS A FAKE CHASE NUMBER.
