Roger, I was told over the phone by a Chase representative that I have dealt with personally that it IS the Fraud Detection Dept, contracted to a company called something like 'Anexa'. But it's ALWAYS better to call the number on the back of your card, or go in to the bank to ask.
THIS IS A SCAM. THIS IS NOT A CHASE BANK NUMBER.I got couple of calls from this number and left a voicemessage about some fraudulent activity reported on my account.I called Chase bank (the number on my credit card) and found out this number is not from Chase bank and CHASE asked me don't provide any information on phone. It is always better to call the contact number on your credit/debit card.
I'm pretty sure this # is legit, but Chase may not know it because the bank is full of idiots. I just spent a 1/2 hour on the phone with multiple departments to find out my zelle transfer was really held. They're morons and that's why it's so hard to know if this is a real # or not. I can't confirm for 100%, but I'm sure it is and due to their disorganization or flat out not wanting to disclose their fraud #s it's been denied in the past.Avoid Chase at all costs!!!
I have received 2 calls as well... just got off the phone with Chase (from my debit card) and no one at chase was trying to get a hold of me.My philosophy is that even if this is somewhat legit (as some posters claim), if my accounts are in order, my transactions are working properly, and chase says they were not trying to get a hold of me, then there is no reason to even consider responding to this phone number... block the number, delete the voicemails, and don't waste any more time on this!
I got a voice message from this number with a code to confirm a transaction. I called the number. Got automatic messsge just like Chase. Entered the code, it took me for a verification questions which happens to be my information (scary). Then mentioned the transaction that they supposed to be verifying with options to whether The transaction was legit ir not. I didn’t recognized it but i never selected an option and the automatic voice said my card has been suspended and it put me on hold for over 30 min and I hanged up.I called chase to the number in the back of my card and of course it wasn’t chase.
The number is legit. I called this number 1-877-242-7372. Tell them to transfer you to the online fraud dept and they will confirm this number is actually from chase. The first rep didnt know about this number and transfered me a few times and eventually the online fraud dept verified this number.
"This is for (name) from Chase fraud prevention. It is important to prevent any further difficulties using your account. Call us immediately toll free at 800-366-1962 and provide reference number (xxxxxxx) to verify this activity. Please respond by 7:45 PM Eastern time or the item maybe returned." Stupid scammers! I don't even do business with Chase.
The truth here is that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. After a lot of back and forth, the number would (surprisingly) appear to be legit. Here's my story.I called the number on the back of my card (1-800-935-9935) three different times and all three times the person on the other end assured me that there was no fraud alert on my card and that they had no record of the 1-800-366-1962 number. I was told the call was a fraud and not to give out any information. So I was convinced the calls were fraudulent but then I started thinking, it sure was appropriate timing to receive such a call given the fact that I recently make an unusually large transfer to a newly added external account. I called up the number on the back of my card again, asked the lady to check the status on my ACCOUNT, not my card... this time it came back with something. They transferred me to their fraud department who then CONFIRMED the number. I asked the lady at the fraud department why customer service doesn't have a record of the number and she said she had no idea, but that the customer department should always transfer you to their department rather than claiming a clean status or that some number is definitely fraud. I worked with the fraud department to clear the alert that was in fact on my account. Long story short, talk directly with the fraud department, using the number of the back of your card, and ignore whatever customer service says because they don't know what they're talking about.
