I did not answer this call because it came in on my home phone (for years I've only received scammer and telemarketer calls on my home phone....so I rarely pick up). I researched the number and it was supposedly associated with Am Ex. Instead of calling the number that called me I called the Am Ex Customer Service phone # on the back of my actual Am Ex card. This call was legit. Someone had been trying to use my Am Ex oversees and at oddball places I would never do business with. I was told the merchants were saying the user had a "card in hand".....odd because I only have one card and it's in my wallet. Am Ex didn't let the charges go thru (thank goodness). They asked if I had not seen the e-mail they sent me or calls they'd been making. I explained I would not have given them the information they wanted from me to straighten this out if I had answered their call to me. I know I was speaking with the "real" Am Ex customer service because I've used the # several times before and also it was on the back of my card, and listed as a # to call after I formally logged into my account. If you get a call from this # I would call AM Ex customer service directly rather than pick up.
Got a call right a 9:00 pm last night on my land line. Left no message. They even got around my phone block I set up with my new phone!!! If it were for real they would not call. Instead they send a bill for the amount due.
The caller ID display number is easily manipulated. If there is any doubt in one's mind the caller on the other end is not who they claim to be, it is easy to hang up and call the number back to ensure you are talking to the real Amex customer service.
It is Amex. Same number to contact their Customer Service is listed in their app. My payment was late and they called with a reminder. Anyone that says it's not Amex needs to check first.
Got a call from this number today. I didn't pick up and (surprise!) no message was left. But I appreciate all of you who did pick up and reported here. This is my favourite website. I've read through all the posts and I don't think this is AMEX, because caller ID says UNAVAILABLE. In all the YEARS I've been harassed by these callers, nearly daily, even though I'm on the do not call list, whether I've answered or not I've NEVER received a legitimate call from a number that showed up as UNAVAILABLE. Legitimate businesses identify themselves. We have a presidential election coming up, and this means televised debates. My understanding is that questions can be taken from the public. I would like to see the following questions asked: how many complaints does the do not call complaint website field every year and how many personnel are devoted to the effort and at what cost to the taxpayer? Is there data published for the benefit of the public on what numbers are reported, and how many complaints are acted upon? Are the fines levied sufficient to cover the cost of operating the site? What can be done to eradicate the violators not operating within our borders? Can we set up a national system that will not permit identifications such as "unavailable" attached to phone numbers (those with legitimate privacy concerns can still use call blocking and take their chances whether the caller wants to take the call)? We keep all kinds of statistics in this country, the average number of guns per person, the average number of homicides per day, etc., what about publishing the average number of illegal phone calls per phone number registered on the do not call list based on the numbers of complaints filed on the site?
This is AE who calls me 6-8 times a day on an account closed THREE YEARS AGO! I have asked them to stop to no avail. Like to call them at THEIR HOME MANY times a day all night long .they are inept idiots.
This # is now calling me. Funny how I looked up a # the other day and it was also supposedly from Am ex. I guess the scammers are cloning many different #'s. Just wish i knew why they target all of us? And if you want to conduct business why not leave a message? LOLCan't wait for my new phone with call block feature to arrive!
To all the honest people out there, this number, which comes up American Express on caller I.D. CAN be a scam. It just happened to us - the person (no accent) says it's the fraud department for Am. Express and that your account has been frozen due to a couple of suspicious new charges and you are given the exact details of the charges. They tell you they need your last 3 digits of your credit card in order to "undo" the freeze. They then steal a ton of miles from the account and use it for gift cards and freeze you out of your account by changing the password. Don't fall for this!
