American Express calling, trying to sell me on some kind of identity theft security plan. I interrupted and said "I'm not interested. Anything else you're calling about?" He said no, gave a number I can call if I had "any questions or concerns about this call" and politely said bye and hung up.I've found that asking "Is there anything else you're calling about?" immediately upon declining their offer throw telemarketers off-script, so they're less likely to go through the standard follow-up push.
Going through my phone's old "received" phone calls tonight I came to 800notes to report this number. I've read some of the above posts/reports. This number is NOT from a scammer but, rather, from American Express. I had a couple of attempted fraudulent charges on my account -- and AmEx notified me (via this phone number and email) immediately. I had to get a new credit card with a new number ... but all is well. I have several Visa, Mastercard, and other credit cards but my impression is that American Express is the best of the best. I am NOT a paid advertiser! Thanks AmEx and thanks 800notes!
If you google American Express Customer Service Phone Number, guess what number you are given to call American Express Customer Service --- well if you guessed 800-528-4800 then you guessed right. I don't want to hear any BS about how that could be manipulated, we all know their is not a hacker or hacker organization out there that can manipulate googles search results.
Calls, if it goes to the machine, they hang up. I answer, they hang up.Great business plan these folks have. Wasting their time and mine.Dumb, dumb people.
It was indeed American Express. My spouse was at the airport and having an issue with the card. So it was very legit for me.
Since Amex is so indifferent about this matter, maybe we might start thinking more outside of the box to, hopefully, make some progress in solving it. For example, I heard that Chase Bank is having a lot of financial problems and they are afraid that the Feds might not bail them out (You know, too big to fail--just like the dinosaurs were--too big to fail. Ha! Ha!) I imagine that the ‘fat cats’ at Chase (you know the 1%) probably want to drum up more business so that Chase can go on and on forevermore--too big to fail. If more and more of us 99% develop more and more ‘bad feelings’ about Amex, we could end it with them and take out credit card business elsewhere--maybe Chase. It’s a gamble, but those ‘fats cats’ love to gamble; but, of course, only if they win. We don’t know what the 1% has up it sleeves. But we can be reassured that most of it is crooked. They love to ’stack the deck.’ They’re criminals, and some of them know it. . . . . . . . . . . Or, who of us knows it, maybe those companies that sell call blocking phones want more business. . . . I imagine that there could be a billion and one scenarios. What’s your idea?
Two messages 4 hours apart. First one was a 40-second (loud) beep; the second was a 4-second voice message said "Thank you for using American Express" and abruptly ended. This is NOT American Express!
The person who reported your post as abusive is not on our side and I assume this person does not believe in free or creative speech. I certainly agree with you that they are wasting your time. I think they are wasting most of our time. But I don’t think they are wasting their time: I believe they know exactly what they are doing. I don’t know what the heck they are doing, but most likely they know what they are doing. And I don’t think they are dumb either. I think they are smart; i.e., they are getting away with their criminal activities: so far, very few of us has been able to stop them. No, I think they are smart alright, and I also think they are sinister. And those who report our posts as abusive are among them. They’re very cleaver. They are reporting us, the victims, as the criminals. They think like attorneys.
