This is a legitimate call from American Express - I for one are thankful to the post that indicate it was Amex. I called the number and spoke with customer service. Somehow - I did not send them a payment and the call was regarding the past due amount. In this case, I was thankful they call because I was have received $70 worth of late charges. I paid the amount past due on 2 accts while on the phone with the rep. The late charges were removed due to my long standing with Amex. The non-payment was definitely an oversight on my part - and would have remained so - if I did not get that call.- So - I am glad they called as a reminder. To that end, 800-528-4800 is definitely legit.
I got a call from this number on 3-19-2015 at 7:49 pm. Caller said that if LENR is to succeed on this great day in history for the anniversary of Cold Fusion (3/23/1989), that Walter White will politely request that pizza delivery be stopped at his house in Albuquerque, NM and that he needs a "greener" front lawn. Someone also left some spare change in his driveway (2 bags of nickels) and he said... "spend wisely this time" .. --eom-
This was a legitimate call from American Express Account Security Group. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize so the call went to my voice mail. The automated voice informed me she was from the Account Security Group for AMEX and they wanted to verify attempted charges on my card. As other folks have mentioned, however, I did take the precaution of calling the number on the back of my card and not this number. It was AMEX and they were concerned about a relatively large online purchase I tried to make at a retailer with known security breaches. They wanted to verify it was me and that I was familiar with the amount of the charge. So my experience says this is a legit call but always exercise caution and call the number on the back of your card.
I did get a call from this number, they told me about some unwanted activity on my card and confirmed a reversal. Didn't ask me for any information. I still called AMEX after the other call hung up and AMEX confirmed the call was from AMEX fraud department. So it is NOT one of those phone scams.
Got a call with this caller ID at 8:08 AM on a Sunday morning. No message. AMEX wouldn't do that.It might be a legit AMEX number, but it's spoofed in this case.
No matter what the number shows or who they say they are, it's all wrong. Ironic that it would be from their "fraud department" when it is one. They have called me 10 times and hung up just in time to trip the voice mail with 10 empty messages. Someone suggested increasing the number of rings since it hangs up after 4 rings so I've done that and hope it works. I also mute the phone rings so I don't have to hear it and all the other garbage calls. If someone legit calls they will leave a message. I don't have an AMEX card and do not want AMEX card, so why would their fraud department keep calling? I never answer that phone anyway and plan to unplug it when the election robocalls begin. Oh, and if anyone does actually talk to a male with a heavy middle eastern accent, he has all kinds of scams going. He has called here in the past claiming we had an outstanding Pay Day Loan (I don't get loans) and another time that I was picked by the US Grant Department (doesn't exist) to receive $5,000 for having good credit. These are so stupid and annoying, but again notifying any gov't agency does not work (either does the do not call list) because these same scammers have been operating for years. You can see that by the dates on all these msgs.
I'm sorry to leave another message but this is truly awful. I just called AMEX and told them about all the calls to my number. Today I caught the recorded name of who they are looking for with "a very important message and to call them back." All these calls are for "Stanley." As I explained to AMEX, there is no Stanley here and I am tired of all the calls. They said unless they could pull up Stanley's account number there is nothing they can do. Are you kidding me? So I am going to get these calls forever until Stanley decides to call them? How does Stanley even know somebody is calling him? I could not give the customer support representative my phone number and tell him to remove it from their system. They said it is not possible. What a sorry system they have, to be able to annoy someone to death when they get a wrong name and number. He recommended the do not call list. I AM on the do not call list. You know what, this does not speak well of American Express and I am very glad I have no business and never will have any business with them. I go so disgusted I just hung up. If it continues I will call the newspaper and talk to the people who handle consumer problems.
I finally relented and called the number. It wanted my AMEX number. I refused. So it asked for the last 5 digits, which I provided. Then it wanted the ZIP code and the last four SSN, which I refused. That number could be fraudulent. Who knows? When I finally talked with someone, they wanted even more information. That made me more skeptical. And they were not reassuring. When I said, 'How do I know this isn't fraudulent?", they didn't have an answer. So I hung up.If Amex wants to communicate something important to me, I expect to receive an e-mail.If not, they can hang their card. If the calls are coming from Amex, I will cancel entirely. This is harassment.
I just received a call and I went to www.AmericanExpress.com and clicked on About American Express and from there I clicked on Contact Us. The first number that shows up is this very number 800-528-4800. It is Amex customer service, I called them and they verified that they were trying to offer me a new product. Sometimes, these calls are legit and you can verify them in few minutes.
