I just got a call from them about Health Insurance for our business, so I tell her NO, THANK YOU and she says she's not selling health insurance and I said "I know, dear, but I don't have time for your survey" and hung up. This [***] actually called back TWICE! I'm appalled.

Jeff is correct. just look through the link he provided and call the numbers listed on that site. i dont like it either...way too personal for a census. i guess it is what it is.

This gal just called from the census bureau. She said she was from the government Census Bureau and had a mandatory survey I had to do. I let her have it. I told her she had called and threatened my husband saying it was the law and he could get in trouble with the government for not cooperating. I told her I had typed her telephone number into google the last time she called and come up with pages of refernces to such calls. That they originated from Arizona. She said she was calling from Indiana. Not so. I continued to confront her with the fact she was most likely a crook trying to solicit illegal information for who knows what reason. She tried to talk over me but I lept at her with the information I had checked out about the number she was calling from. She told me it was mandatory and I told her surveys were voluntary and I didn't have to give her any information, much less my address. Then I told her to take a look in the miirror and see herself for the crook she is. Then I told her I was reporting her to the authorities. This person has called numerous times.

I certainly would! SCAMS are getting more and more sophisticated these days and you REALLY need to keep your information as private and safe as you can which is getting harder to do these days! With the information they ask for as stated in this forum, they could know most of your life's moves and information which in my book is VERY dangerous!

I just moved in to my secured condo/apt. A woman followed me in and I was polite (naive) to hold the door open, thinking she too lived her. It turns out she claimed to be from the census bureau. I did not answer her questions, but gave her my cell number (big mistake). She kept calling. I did not take down the number nor did I do the interview. Then another person called saying he was following up on her visit and wanted to do the survey. I did a brief one, but not giving out my ss number. A couple weeks later I get a call from 812-218-3144 from a woman saying she is from the census and following up my case. I don't return to call. Then the next day, I get a call from a man (520-798-4152) and he says he is following up. I tell him forget it. He says that if it is the confidentiality concern, then he can have a person from the census bureau come to me in person. I said forget it. I should have said ok and called the cops to get these scammers.

We got a survey form to fill out. It asked way too manypersonal intrusive questions so we threw it away.Then the phone calls started,but we didnt know what was going on. It was "unavailable" or "private"or an occasional unknown number would show up, they would callevery hour all day long everyday, it was crazy. We never answerunknown calls.Then we had the strange intense nervous feeling of being Watchedfor several weeks.Then finally one morning about 11:00 this Rude [***] with anugly attitude showed up out of the blue at my front door.She was on a small black vehicle, I couldnt tell if it was a compact van or jeep, it was a newer model.She had a laptop computer with her and said she was fromthe Census. I said I was not interested.Then she said it was a mandatory survey and if I didnttake it, I could be fined or something.I never invited her in, I just stood at the doortalking to her.She asked for address and how many people living here and how long.I told her. Then she started talking about some mobile home trailerasking me where it was,because it was supposedly herein 2000 when the last census was done.I told her I had no idea what she was talking about.She kept acting crazy like I was hiding some trailer.And even threatened saying,"I can walk behind your houseand see if its there".To which I Laughed and said "if you find an invisible trailerback there, let me know, because I don't know about it".I pointed to my neighbors land that has a bunch of trailers on itand said Look over there, they have lots of trailers,so its proably over there. She said No I've already been there.Anyway she kept saying the same trailer crap over and overI thought she was retarded.She gave me a census brochure and said they would call and left.Later they called with the phone number showing which we verifiedto be the Census. My husband answered and took the phone survey,something I would have never done and if I did, I would giveFalse information anyway.Then for several weeks and months after that Low Flying helicopterskept flying over our place repeatedly day and night and evenLate at night. I guess they were still looking for their imaginerytrailer,LOL! Anyway these people are crazy, stupid and desparate.Why do they want information so bad? And don't they know if theyforce people to take a survey they do not want to take,they are going to get False information anyway? Its a fact.This happened last year.

I received a call on March 4, 2007 supposedly from the Census Bureau. My wife talked to them first and then she gave the phone to me. I told her I was busy and asked her how many questions she had, and she said she had about eleven. I told her she would have to call me later. She is going to call tonite. When I had time I researched the internet for Census Bureau scams and found this site. Oh yes, I will talk to her tonite.

I must say that reading these comments gave me great pleasure. You all are hilarious. I work for the United States Census Bureau/The Department of Commerce. I have made these types of calls to you. The particular survey that you were required to participate in was called The American Community Survey. It indeed is a mandatory government form. The survey is bascially a detailed version of the ten year population count. We ask for more detailed information in an effort to shorten the census that will be coming in 2010. So, you should really be thanking us for the time that we are saving you come 2010. I think what I enjoyed most about your responses were that you actually think that contacting ANY lawmaker would do you any good. WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT PEOPLE! All your lawmakers are going to tell you is that this is, in fact, a very real form and is in no way a scam. Since many of our forms are mandated by law, and the American public are typically lazy conspiracy theorists, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are so many of you who feel that they need to complain about this issue. But, I'm used to it. You have no idea how much we enjoy how angry you get at us when we contact you. Oh, and for the lady who said that they were going to contact their local news station, I appreciated that posting the most. I can only imagine how stupid the station thought you were that you would think this would be a good story. I can see it now: "Crazy Citizen Thinks She is Above the Law...film at 11". So, please keep these idiotic complaints coming. They really make all of us here laugh as you clearly have no idea how idiotic and uneducated you are making yourselves sound. Same thing. I've received calls and voice mails from this number with a case # associated with my account. Right. Buyer/citizen beware.
